Essay Question:

In the work of at least two poets you have studied, compare how moments of intense thoughts
and feelings are created.

poetry selections:

O sweet spontaneous
of Ever-Ever land I speak

Lapis Lazuli
Running to paradise

Poetry conveys various perceptive meanings, often acting as a powerful statement intended
to invoke moments of intense thoughts and feelings within the readers. Therefore, poems
can act as a medium in which poets can discuss the persons, things, experiences, and ideas
they hold close to their hearts. “Running to Paradise” and “Lapis Lazuli” are poems written
by W.B. Yeats that show intense thoughts and feelings, like ee cumming’s “O sweet
spontaneous” and “of Ever-Ever land i speak”.

In “of Ever-Ever Land i speak,” passionately denounces artificial conformity amongst people
and their beliefs.
“Running to Paradise” traverses an intense moment of reminiscence regarding the speaker’s
virtue and personal liberation from the mechanical world.

Yeat’s “Lapis Lazuli” examines the speaker’s belief in gaining harmony and serenity during
catastrophic destruction, citing the arts’ emotional detachment from chaos.
“O sweet spontaneous” celebrates the grandness of nature in the face of humanity’s
invasive actions.
All the selected poems showcase the poet’s condemnation of the society they lived in. To
emphasise the seriousness of these issues, they create moments of intense thoughts and
feelings. These might be unorthodox and unfamiliar to the readers, but ultimately make
them consider the poets’ perspectives.
