Mess opt Out Rules – Infracom

The purpose of this document is to introduce the opt-out system for the hostel messes,
in line with the demands of students who don’t wish to avail the mess services.

1. You can opt out from the mess services starting from the first of next month
The mess opt-out program will start from the first of next month. A student can choose to opt-out
for the entirety of the month only. The opt out will be for all meals served during the month. There
will not be an option for a partial opt out i.e., opt out on meal wise basis.

Infracom will release the list of special dinners and the mess menu for the upcoming month before
the start of each month. Students who decide to opt out will not be able to have the regular meals,
special dinners, regional committee meals or meals on any other festive occasion.

Students will be given a 3-day window starting from the 25th of the previous month to opt out of
the mess for the subsequent month only. There will be a google form circulated via the Infracom ID
for the entire batch every month during this period. Each student who wishes to opt out will be
required to fill out the form within the deadline. The form should also be filled out if you wish to
continue opting out for the coming month.

Failure to fill the form within the deadline would automatically renew your subscription for the
mess. The data for the same will be shared with the vendors for their tracking purposes.

Offline form to be filled

The students opting out must collect a form from the vendor at their office adjacent to the mess in
male residence. Kindly fill in all the details in the form and submit the same along with a passport-
size photograph attached to it.

2. Can I opt into the mess system anytime within the month?

You can only opt into the mess services at the beginning of the month by not filling the opt
out form for the next month. No flexibility shall be provided to any student who has opted
out to avail the mess services in middle of the month.
3. How will it impact the billing of students?
There will not be any impact on the billing of students who continue with the mess services. They
will be required to pay the same amount of Rs. 6000/- per month.

For students who decide to opt out, the following would apply to them:

i) Students will be allowed to opt out only after their dues with the vendor have been settled.

ii) Students would still be required to pay a fixed amount of Rs 1000 /- per month for the
maintenance and upkeep of the mess. The same is also stated in the dining policy for your reference.

4. Fines and Penalties

iii)If a student is found violating any of the provisions mentioned above, there will be a fine imposed
for the same. A student who has opted out, if found in violation of the rules, will be required to pay
the mess fee for the entire month (Rs. 6000/-) to the mess vendor, along with a fine for the violation
to the administration. The administration authorities will deal with repeat offenders as per their
guidelines for the same.
iv) Taking food out of the mess will not be allowed, for people opting for the mess. If found in
violation, Infracom will take action for the same after consultation with the administration.

v) If there are multiple cases of students violating the opt out rules being reported by the vendor,
the mess would be closed during the meal timings for those who have opted out.
