DRAINING FUEL TANK

CONVENTIONAL PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the fuel feed line (2) quick-connect fitting. Refer to QUICK-CONNECT FITTINGS .

2. Install the appropriate Fuel Line Adapters/Fitting from the (special tool #8978A, Decay Tool,
Fuel). Route the opposite end of this hose to an diesel fuel draining station.

3. Using a diagnostic scan tool, activate the fuel pump until the fuel tank is empty.

ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Raise and support vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

3. Remove fuel pump module. Refer to MODULE, FUEL PUMP, REMOVAL.

4. Drain fuel tank using an approved diesel fuel draining and storage tank.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove fuel cap.

3. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to DRAINING FUEL TANK .

4. Remove hose clamp (2) and remove fuel fill hose from fuel tank.

5. Disconnect fuel pump wire harness connector (1).

6. Disconnect fuel line quick connect fittings (3) and (4) evaporator hoses (1) and (2). Refer to
QUICK-CONNECT FITTINGS .

7. Remove bolts (2) and the fuel tank straps (1).

8. Lower the fuel tank.

1. Raise the fuel tank.

2. Install the straps (1) and fuel tank. Tighten bolts (2) to 55 N.m (41 ft. lbs.).

3. Connect fuel line quick connect fittings (3) and (4) evaporator hoses (1) and (2).

4. Connect fuel pump wire harness connector (1).

5. Connect the fuel fill hose to the fuel tank, and install the hose clamp.

6. Transfer fuel into the tank.

7. Connect the negative battery cable.

8. Turn the ignition on, and inspect for leaks.
