Seminar 2 – Vectors and Moments

Seminar 2 – Questions:
The following questions are to demonstrate the principles of:
1. Vectors – where a diagonal force is comprised on a vertical and horizontal force
2. Moments – a force multiplied by a perpendicular distance.
3. Forces – Simplification of uniformly distributed (UDL) and linearly distributed loads
(LDL)
These principles are important when solving reaction forces and considering load accumulation
for structures

Question 1 - Vectors

Covert (or project) the following force(s) into a single horizontal and a single vertical force.

Answers:

Case Horizontal force Vertical

ALL ANSWERS SHOULD HAVE UNITS AND DIRECTION!!!

Question 2 – Moments

Consider the following spanners. Calculate the moment (or torque) that each bolt is experiencing.

Moment Generated = ___________ Moment Generated = ___________

Moment Generated = __________ Moment Generated = ___________

ALL ANSWERS NEED UNITS AND DIRECTION!!!
