Dolomite is a material that has been around for ages, but it was
only recently that it sparked the interest of many Filipinos.

Earlier this month, the Department of Environment and Natural

Resources (DENR) pushed through with its plan of covering a
500-meter stretch of Manila Bay’s shoreline with dolomite sand
—a move that drew both praise and criticism.

The Manila Bay White Sand Rehabilitation was implemented last September 19, 2020
under President Rodrigo Duterte which has 389 million pesos fond for the
beautification. Many people criticize this project but government has a one main reason
and that is for the beautification of the beach.

For me, this project does not well think enough because the artificial sand called
dolomite may cause hazard to people and sea creatures living in that beach. Many
studies say that this calcium magnesium carbonate that used for construction may
affect human health even though it’s non-toxic. High exposure to this may caused
respiratory disorder with a symptom of coughing. In my view, this project is really
unnecessary, most especially because we are experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic that
causes multiple deaths, a lot of people also lost their jobs just to make assure the safety
of everyone, to lessen the people who will get the virus that is why people suffer from
hunger. I am one of those people that is not a fan of this project because I don’t see the
good reason of this during this time, I understand that it is for beautification but a lot of
people suffers, a lot of people experience extreme poverty because of this new normal, a
lot of people want food in a table and not a dolomite in the beach.
