Introduction

As a managerial leader, students will be involved in composing e-mails, memos, policies, procedures,
proposals, reports, and letters. These forms of written communication function as the backbone of the
organization’s internal and external communication. Especially in today’s world where the predominant
mode of communication is electronic communication, which has made everyone a writer, clear, concise
and accurate business writing has become more important than ever. Besides, students are also required
to do the written analysis of case studies so that they learn to analyze and gain insights from complex
business data. Case study helps students learn by immersing them in a real-world business scenario where
they can act as problem-solvers and decision-makers.

Objective

To enable students to:

 To write clear audience centric business messages

 To hone analytical skills

 To prepare business proposals and reports

Contents:

1. Principles of Written Communication: Seven Cs of communication (with examples and cases)

2. Internal Written Communication: E-mails, memos; notices; circulars; orders; agenda and
minutes
3. External Written Communication: Business letters - positive & negative messages; direct &

indirect messages; business proposals – long and short and press release
4. Business Reports: Short and long; Informational and analytical business reports.

5. Written Case Analysis: Different approaches to writing case analysis
