Many poorer countries have seen tremendous economic and social improvement, making
the world far more complex than the Brandt Line represents. However, inequality in these
countries has been rising, prompting the terms 'Global North' and 'Global South,' referring to richer
and poorer populations. For example, it is true that India still boasts the world's highest number of
underprivileged people in a single country, it also has a significant amount of middle class and a
wealthy elite class (RGS Org, n.d.). Recognizing that these countries in the so-called ‘Global
South’ are still improving on a lot of different areas makes it more advantageous for them to not
proceed on the paths taken by countries of the ‘Global North’ that have led to the continuous
sustainable development for these countries. In terms of business, the window of opportunity to
establish an export-oriented economy that is competitive on the international market, possibly even
enough to withstand the massive exogenous shocks that lie ahead is an advantage for the ‘Global
South’. To put into simple terms, being underdeveloped creates more options to choose from.
Utilizing these chances to create an economic development that serves everyone will be very much
