SUBJECT: Kubota 3.8 Diesel Engine Dipstick Breaking

MODELS AFFECTED: J004 (S80-120FT), R005 (H80-120FT), S005 (H80 –120FT),

U005 (H80 -120FT), K006 (H135 -155FT), L006 (H135-155FT), F024 (S135 -155FT),
G024 (S135 -155FT), B299 (H170-190FT)

DESCRIPTION: It has been reported that the Dipstick has been breaking on some
of these Engines. If you have seen this issue, then make sure to replace not only the
Dipstick but also the Dipstick Guide.

Parts affected:
4042230 Dipstick reported to be Braking
4042232 Old Guide that will need to be replaced
4154206 New Guide to replace the Old Guide with
2084312 Liquid gasket

Dipstick Guide Location

Dipstick guide is located above motor mount, so it is not possible to drive out with
chisel shown in the manuals.

Removal of the Old Guide
Removal was accomplished with a 16mm dowel puller.

Removal of the Old Guide

Flared lip on old dipstick guide had to be ground off first.

Flywheel dowel was inserted into dipstick guide large end to stabilize tube outside
diameter to allow puller to get decent bite. The dowel is P/N 0303150 (Hyster
Aftermarket). The OD is 12.018/12.007 mm, it’s a standard ISO 12mm dowel pin.

Apply seal material to all circumference area that lengthened oil gauge touches
crankcase area.

Assembly – with Common Tools

Without the correct punch to install the dipstick guide, the following method can also
be used.
– A 5/16” or 9 mm socket fit into the large end of the new dipstick guide.
– A socket wrench extension was inserted into the socket.
– A brass hammer was used to tap the new dipstick guide into place.
