Post and Spaces Worksheet

1. 8 light poles were placed along a road. A length of wire 9.5m was used
between each pair of poles to connect the light poles.
What was the total length of wire used?

2. Thirteen light posts were evenly spaced along a road. A total of 96 water
pipes were placed in the ground between the 13 posts. Each pipe was 6m
long and was connected end to end. What was the total length of pipes used
between the first and the fifth post?

3. A fence is being erected using post 25cm wide which are connected by
pieces of wire. The total distance from the first post to the fourth post is
16m. What is the total distance from the 2nd post to the 10th post?

4. Salim wants to plant coconut tree around his plot of land 50m long and
20m wide. If he is planting the trees 5m apart, how many trees does he
need to buy?

5. Eight warning lights were equally spaced along a road repair zone.
Underground pipes connect the lights from end to end to supply electricity.
There were 56 equally long underground PVC pipes used in all to pass the
electricity cables.
a) How many underground pipes are there between the 1st and 2nd
warning lights?
b) Each pipe is 6 metres long. What length of electrical cable is used
from end to end?

6. Lamp posts are placed along both sides of the street 300m long on Petal
Avenue.
a) If the lamp posts are placed 12m apart on both sides of the street,
how many lamp posts are required?
b) The electricity company workers used 12.5 of electrical wire to
connect one lamp to another. The wire came in a roll of 100m. How
many rolls did the workmen use?

7. Teacher Chris collected all his identical Math texts and placed them in a
straight line and equal distance apart. The total distance from the third and
fifth book is 44cm. Each book has a width of 12cm.
What is the total distance from the 7th to the end of the 20th book?
8. Posts are placed 12 metres apart along a straight road. The first post is
placed at the beginning of the street and the last post at the end of the street.
Calculate the distance of the street if 16 posts have been used.

9. Chloe’s house is located in her rectangular yard. The length of her house is
80m long and it is 1.5 times its width. She wants to fence the yard and
needs to find out how many fence posts she would purchase.
Fence-posts are placed 2.5m apart, leaving a 5m gate opening to the front
of the house. Calculate the total cost of the post if they are sold at $45.00
each.

10. Light poles are placed along a street at an equal distance apart from each
other. The distance from the 3rd and 5th pole is 12 metres.
What is the total distance from the 1st to the 10th pole?

11. Mr. James wants to fence his home 28m long and 21m wide using wire that
cost $14.75 per metre. Each post costs $45.00 and are placed 7m apart. A
gate of 7m is built at the front of his home.
How much would it cost Mr. James to fence his home?

12. Mr. Kenneth plants a row of corn. He plants 10 seeds, equal distant from
each other. The distance between the 1st and last seed is 108m.
What is the distance between each seed that is planted?

13. Identical rectangular cards are placed on a straight line at an equal distance
from each other. The total distance from the first card to the third card is
24cm. each card has a width of 4cm.
What is the total distance from the third card to the sixteenth card?
