❖ Renewable energy is energy that is collected from
renewable resources that are naturally replenished on a
human timescale.
❖ RENEWABLE RESOURCES:-
Here are five major renewable energy sources
Solar energy from the sun.
Geothermal energy from heat inside the earth.
Wind energy.
Biomass from plants.
Hydropower from flowing water.
❖ WIND GENERATION
❖ WIND MILL AND ITS PARTS
❖ USE OF WIND IN POWER GENERATION
❖ ADVANTAGES
❖ DISADVANTAGES
❖ APPLICATIONS
WIND
GENERATION
Wind is caused by the uneven heating of
the atmosphere by the, variations in the earth's surface, and
rotation of the earth.
Mountains, bodies of water, and vegetation all influence wind
flow patterns .
Windmill:-  A windmill is a structure that converts wind
power into rotational energyby means of vanes called sails or
blades, specifically tomill grain, but the term is also extended to
windpumps, wind turbines and other applications. The term
wind engine is sometimes used to describe such devices
1. BLADES:- Turbine blades vary in size, but a typical modern
land-based wind turbine has blades of over 170 feet (52
meters).
Rotor Blades - The rotor blades of a wind turbine operate
under the same principle as aircraft wings. One side of the blade
is curved while the other is flat. The wind flows more quickly
along the curved edge, creating a difference in pressure on
either side of the blade
2. ROTOR:- The rotor connects to the generator, either
directly (if it's a direct drive turbine) or through a shaft and a
series of gears (a gearbox) that speed up the rotation and allow
for a physically smaller generator. This translation of
aerodynamic force to the rotation of a generator creates
electricity.
3. PITCH SYSTEM:- The pitch system of the wind turbine generator
system is used to change the upwind area of the blades when the
rotor is facing the wind, thus controlling the rotation torque of the
rotor.
The pitch system adjusts the angle of the wind turbine's blades with
respect to the wind, controlling the rotor speed. By adjusting the
angle of a turbine's blades, the pitch system controls how much energy
the blades can extract.

4. GENERATOR:- The generator is driven by the high-speed shaft.

Copper windings turn through a magnetic field in the generator to
produce electricity. Some generators are driven by gearboxes and others
are direct-drives where the rotor attaches directly to the generator.
5.CONTROLLER:- The controller allows the machine to
start at wind speeds of about 7–11 miles per hour (mph) and
shuts off the machine when wind speeds exceed 55–65 mph.
The controller turns off the turbine at higher wind speeds to
avoid damage to different parts of the turbine.
Think of the controller as the nervous system of the turbine.

6. YAW DRIVE:- The yaw drive rotates the nacelle on upwind

turbines to keep them facing the wind when wind direction
changes. The yaw motors power the yaw drive to make this
happen.
Downwind turbines don’t require a yaw drive because the wind
manually blows the rotor away from it.
7. TOWER:- The tower of the wind turbine carries
the nacelle and the rotor. Towers for large wind
turbines may be either tubular steel towers, lattice
towers, or concrete towers.
(Most of the steel in a wind turbine is the tower.
About 90% of all wind turbine towers are tubular steel
towers.)
Wind turbines work on a simple principle: instead of using
electricity to make wind—like a fan—
wind turbines use wind to make electricity. Wind turns the
propeller-like blades of a turbine around
a rotor, which spins a generator, which creates electricity.
ADVANTAGES OF WIND
• WindENERGY:-
power is cost-effective. ...
• Wind creates jobs. ...
• Wind enables U.S. industry growth and U.S. competitiveness. ...
• It's a clean fuel source. ...
• Wind is a domestic source of energy. ...
• It's sustainable. ...
• Wind turbines can be built on existing farms or ranches.
DISADVANTAGES OF WIND
• ENERGY:-
Cost Tradeoffs.
• Unpredictable Energy Source.
• Noise Pollution.
• Biological And Environmental Impacts.
• Visual Appearance.
APPLICATIONS OF WIND ENERGY
The wind energy is used to propel the sailboats in river and
seas to transport men and materials from one place to another.
Wind energy is used to run pumps to draw water from the
grounds through wind mills.
Wind energy has also been used to run flourmills to grind
the grains like wheat and corn into flour.
Now-a-days wind energy is being used to generate electricity.
Wind energy may be considered as the world’s fastest growing
energy source.
By the development of technology, wind power may become
most economical and environmental friendly source of
electricity in many countries in the coming 10 to 20 years.
