Problem P1: Consider the signal x(t), which consists of a single rectangular pulse of unit
height, is symmetric about the origin, and has a total width 𝑇1 .

(a) Sketch x(t)

6𝜋
(b) Compute X(w), the Fourier transform of x(t). Sketch |X(w)| for |𝑤| ≤ 𝑇 .

Problem P2: Find the Fourier transform of each of the following signals and sketch the
magnitude and phase as a function of frequency, including both positive and negative
frequencies.

Problem P3: Proove the linearity property of fourier transform

𝒙(𝒕) = 𝒂𝒙𝟏 (𝒕) + 𝒃𝒙𝟐 (𝒕) − −> 𝑿(𝒘) = 𝒂𝑿𝟏 (𝒘) + 𝒃𝑿𝟐 (𝒘)

Problem P4: Compute the convultion of the following signals x(t) and h(t) by calculating X(w)
and H(w). using the convultion property and inverse transformation.

𝑥(𝑡) = 𝑡 𝑒 −2𝑡 𝑢(𝑡) ℎ(𝑡) = 𝑒 −4𝑡 𝑢(𝑡)

Problem P5: Two signals 𝑥1 (𝑡) 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥2 (𝑡) are shown in figures below.
a) Find Fourier transforms of both signals 𝑋1 (𝑤) 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑋2 (𝑤)
b) Let 𝑍(𝑤) = 𝑋1 (𝑤) × 𝑋2 (𝑤), Find z(t), which corresponds to the inverse fourier
transform of Z(w).
c) Convolve 𝑥1 (𝑡) 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥2 (𝑡) i.e. 𝑦(𝑡) = 𝑥1 (𝑡) ∗ 𝑥2 (𝑡). Is y(t)=z(t)?

Problem P6: Find the signal corresponding to the following Fourier transforms.
