The website is open to the public so investors often look on the website for new business
ventures, even if you don’t win, someone might want to invest in you/your idea.

Future employers value seeing that you have participated in such awards and can often lead
to internships and job opportunities.

If you want to apply for the graduate scheme at Dyson, saying you’ve participated in the
James Dyson Award helps you to stand out.

Participating will help to boost your confidence and give you the recognition for your ideas
and innovations.

Things to consider

The development of the Supersonic is often perceived as a linear process, but it involved
engineers and designers repeatedly revisiting challenges and encountering new problems to
solve along the way.

Things to consider

You can upload up to five images, each up to 3MB, including one feature image. Include early sketches,
CAD renderings, prototypes, and the finished product (if available).

Ensure that your feature image, showcasing the final product design, is a minimum size of 1440px x 810px
for our project gallery.

You can even upload a video to explain an idea or project, but if you won't be marked down if you don't
have one.

Videos should be less than 3 minutes long and show both the development process of the design and your
prototype in action.

You'll need to upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo first. Take a look at our gallery of past winners for
examples of successful entries.

Things to consider

The James Dyson Award is open to current university students of engineering, product design,
and industrial design – and those who have graduated in these subjects in the last four years.

If you don't want to work alone, or if you studied something else but have a brilliant idea you want
to share, you can still enter as part of a team (maximum 5 pax).

Your team leader must have studied one of the qualifying subjects, and all team members must
be (or have been within the last four years) enrolled for at least one semester in an undergraduate
or graduate programme.

We are also open to those completing degree-level apprenticeships, or those who have completed
one in the past four years, in the field of engineering or design.
