“Modern simplicity and shapes are the most acceptable and standout combi-

Design Concept
‘Aavarna’ is the Sanskrit abbreviation of the word Shapes.
This project is an architectural vision of a single-dwelling
bungalow on a simple longitude rectangle in the narrow
plot size of 24’ x 56’. The client had a keen interest in keep-
ing things minimal. Hence the architects aimed to bring
simplicity by combining it with these shapes. A common
thing here was that each started at one point and complet-
ed at the same point, showing a connection. And so did the
house.

Ground Floor
The ground floor accommodates all the parking areas, storage,
a washroom, and a multipurpose room. A smart play of steps in
the exterior staircase comes into the vision playing the card of
a monochromatic look along with terracotta color taking one
onto the first floor, from where the actual house starts.

First Floor
A median size drawing room breaks the vision as soon as one
enters the house. The color palette was kept subtle with a tint
of a rich white coverlet. The back wall is highlighted with the
famous Bindu and grey bamboo texture in the background.
The paneled wall leads to four spaces following the wash area,
parents bedroom, pooja room, and common toilet.

Parent’s Bedroom
The parent’s bedroom has a combination of three
materials with the shapes highlighted prominently.
The dark stone and veneer break out due to the com-
bination of shapes used. The dark tiles here bring out
the brass shapes more effectively.

Second Floor
On the second floor, the rear side bedroom gives all the bright
and positive synergy, as this bedroom appears on the backside
of the plot and offers a great view to the user. The design is
kept very simple with a textured wall and three abstractions
of Raza’s painting for beautification and connection with the
house concept. The front side bedroom is the pier-glass of the
previous bedroom, with its bed back nicely highlighted and
blended with the Bindu concept abstracting the circular form
into a dissimilar composition.

Terrace Floor
Both bedrooms on the second floor have vice versa Juliet
balcony popping out in the center where an amazing compo-
sition of Skylight is done under RCC. At every space, levels are
inter-connected to each other in the means of concept, mate-
rials, and communication.

Inspiration from the Artwork

The client’s requirement of bringing simplicity and art
together was fulfilled by introducing the famous art-
ist Sayed Haider Raza’s Painting Series called Bindu. It
is derived from the Indian concept of Shunya (mean-
ing zero in Hindi), which inspired the architects to
create something from nothing (Shunya).

Section through the double-height kitchen

The double height central area overlooks the kitchen and
connects all the internal spaces. The concept of dark color
with some popping has been continued in the kitchen over
the shutter and island that is paneled with black dekton tile.
Nicely placed skylight brings the light and wind directly in
the kitchen and also in the upper floor bedrooms due to the
Juliet balconies.

The Facade
Aavarna is a best example of modern simplicity ver-
balizing its language with grey texture in the exteri-
or, a burst of terracotta breaking the monochrome
vision along with the nicely placed verdure. It gives a
room of brightness and positiveness to the home.
