Section 1 - VERBS LESSON

Mr Brown: Alright, we’ll start by learning a few basic English verbs. And firstly, we’ll take the verb to be. I
am English, you are Chinese. (Su Lee) He is Italian!(Giovanni ) She is French. (Danielle)

Mr Brown: Pay attention please! Now, I shall go round the class and ask you each to give me a sentence
using the verb ‘to be’. Taro, ‘I am’

Taro: I amo very happy to be learningo English.

Mr Brown: Very good! Next, Ali, ‘you are’. (Ali stands up and waits while smiling)

Mr Brown: You are…

Ali: You are waiting for me to speak an answer.

Mr Brown: Well done!

Ali: Unfortunately, I am not understanding the question.

Mr Brown: I want you to give me a sentence using ‘you are’.

Ali: ‘I am’

Mr Brown: No, not ‘I am’, ‘you are’. For example you are from Pakistan.

Ali: I am from Pakistan.

Mr Brown: Yes, but now use ‘you are’.

Ali: But I cannot say you are from Pakistan because you are not, are you?

Mr Brown: You are English!

Ali: No, I’m not, I am from Pakistan!

Mr Brown: What am I!

Ali: You are confusing me!

Mr Brown: Never mind!
