UAS CCU ( Teguh Eka Pambudi) TBI 4

1. What culture does West Papua have that can support students to learn foreign languages?

To help West Papuan students in understanding foreign languages, namely teaching cultural
patterns, which include value systems, thought patterns, and behavior patterns in the language
they teach so that students increase students' understanding of other cultures outside of the
cultural patterns around them, increase their appreciation of his own culture, if he gets the
opportunity to go abroad he can use the language he is learning in accordance with the
cultural patterns that apply in that language, and increase his motivation in learning the
language. culture needs to be integrated in language learning is that a person's behavior or
speech can be interpreted differently by listeners or interlocutors who come from different
cultural backgrounds. That is why it can be said that by understanding other cultures, the
understanding of one's own culture will increase. In short, to help West Papuan students to
learn foreign cultures is the behavior of a person in society by imitating or imitating the
behavior of the nation both in their own country and in foreign countries. In short, we can
imagine that learning from foreign cultures is like a bridge that can make it easier for students
in West Papua to learn foreign languages from the culture of each country.

2. What culture does West Papua have that can prevent students from learning a foreign
language?

Barriers to students in West Papua when learning a foreign language with the local culture.
There is a mindset that learning a foreign language, students will forget the local language or
local culture, their interest will change when learning a foreign language. There is also the
thought of students who say that foreign languages are not needed or important to learn, this
reason may be due to the lack of student interest and lack of support from family and friends.
Students cannot practice English outside of school, in other words, students do not have
partners to practice so that when in class students become passive. most people fail to master
English because they treat it as a knowledge-based subject, study it passively, have the wrong
motivation, rarely use it to communicate, and are never struggled outside of class. People
think English is a foreign language to learn. One of the factors that hinder learning English in
Indonesian culture is the introduction of the terms shy, passive, and silent. Sometimes,
students are embarrassed to speak or ask questions in English when in English lessons. There
is an assumption that English is difficult to learn. In Indonesia, most students/community use
local languages and Indonesian as the language of communication. Therefore, English is
difficult for students to use because of the local language they use

3. How will you create an educational culture that can support language learning in your
classroom in the future?

If we discuss how to create an educational culture that can support language learning in our
classrooms in the future, perhaps a more appropriate way is to include a little foreign culture,
for example the culture of shame in learning a language. Many students currently experience
obstacles in learning languages because of shyness in learning such as shyness when
speaking in front of the class, shy when asking questions and others, this is of course a very
big obstacle for students both now and in the future so that in we need a change in terms of
improving an educational culture that can support language learning we need to foster
confidence in students when they learn about languages, why is that? this is because the
strong self-confidence possessed by students will increase the percentage of student success
in learning languages so that many students will be able to learn languages well, both now
and in the future.
