Weekly Newsletter 3/2-3/5

Dear Parents,
There will be no school this Friday for a teacher work day!
Parent teacher conferences are March 18-19 all day. If you didn’t receive a conference preference form due to it getting
lost on your way to you, I am happy to get your time preferences through email. Just email me what times you are
available on those two days. If we have already discussed conference times, or you know your child turned in a slip, you
do not have to send an email.
Report cards will be coming home on Thursday March 12, 2020. I will send an email on Thursday reminding you, so you
can grab that from your child’s backpack.
If you haven’t already, please turn in the Field Trip forms for our field trip to the Clean Water Festival on April 28, 2020.
If you need a new one, please email me. I will print one out for your child.
Volunteers
We will need 6 parent volunteers for the field trip to the Clean Water Festival. If you are interested in joining us, please
respond to this email. We can’t accept more than 8 parents, so it will be a first come first serve. The date and time is
April 28, 2020 8:00am-1:30pm
UPDATE: We have two parent volunteer so far. We would like at least 4 more. If you are able to come with us and want
to join in the fun, please email me!
Language Art
We have been covering theme, author’s perspective, and text features in informational text.
Writing
We are finishing up our latest writing project. It’s an opinion piece on whether or not we should force people to leave
disaster zones, or should people get to decide if they stay. They did some research and are in the process of writing their
rough drafts and final drafts now. We are hoping to finish them this week.
Math
We finished our unit on word problems and we are just beginning our next unit on measurement.
Homework
The homework menu is available for those who want to work at home with your child! These are completely optional, do
not have to be turned in, and do not require materials from school. If you would like to turn any of these activities in for
me to check, I would be happy to look at it! Each child will receive a hard copy of the homework menu tomorrow to take
home. I can print out more if you need onee. Just email me and I’ll get one to you! I’m also including it below.

Homework Menu

Feel free to choose one of the activities off of this list if you would like to do some
homework with your child.

1. Read for 20 min with a book of your choice. (Out loud to a parent or sibling is really
beneficial for oral reading fluency practice.)
2. ABCYA.com Math or Language Arts games. (The games are sectioned off. This
activity requires a computer.)

3. Pick a number 1-9 and write all the multiples up to 12 of that number.
(ex. Pick ‘4’. 4x1=4, 4x2=8, 4x3=12 … 4x12=84.) Additionally, have your child write all the
division equations that correspond with the multiples.

4. Read or listen to any story and draw a picture that summarizes the most important
part of the story.

5. Khan Academy: Math review and practice (I will email each parent their child’s login
and password.)

Thank you for all you do!
