MATHEMATICS INTERVENTION

SY 2020-2021
Mathematics still remains the most feared subject. This is true in spite of many
efforts exhausted by our math educators specially during the time of pandemic, but this
should not stop as math teacher from exerting means of ways to allow students to be
befriend and be comfortable with Math specially with learning difficulties.

This is a big challenge for me as Math teachers in this time of pandemic, much
thought was given regarding how complex processes can be simplified to meet the level
of the students. As always and as it should be, what the learners can absorb with the
utilization of different interventions should be considered.

REMEDIATION
The global pandemic that has dictated
the economic shutdowns have adversely
affected the lives of many. Unfortunately,
the challenge presented is amplified when
looking at modular learning education, and
keeping children engaged is now harder
than ever-especially those who have special
education need. It is important to under-
stand ways in which remedial education
can be optimized so that these students
don’t fall behind, and can utilize this time
to address gaps in their learning abilities.

Even in a “normal” school environment,

students needing special education are
often not provided with the tools necessary
to succeed, and this can affect their academic
progress as well as their self-esteem levels.

CONFERENCES
A parent teacher conferences helps to communicate to parents the areas their
child are excelling in and to give them specific ideas of how to improve upon their child’s
performance in school. Teacher parent conferences should be used as a platform to
make a lasting bond with the parent to increase the likelihood of academic success for
their child. Teacher parent conferences should not be used as a venue to acknowledge
the flaws and inabilities of students, but as a stepping stone to foster improvement
within each child.

FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSIONS ( FGD )
A focus group discussion involves gathering people from similar backgrounds or
experiences together to discuss a specific topic of interest. It is a form of qualitative
research where questions are asked about their perception attitudes, beliefs, opinion or
ideas. In focus group discussion participants are free to talk with other group members;
unlike other research methods it encourages discussions with other participants.

LOCALIZATION LEARNING RESOURCES
The Department of Education encourages all teachers to develop learning
resources in order to utilize it in the teaching learning process. Learner’s engagement to
a learning material results to a better academic performance. The development of
learning resources also helps in augmenting the shortage of textbook as provided by the
DepEd central office. In line with this, teachers are developing their own learning
resources to enhance the teaching and learning process and to increase the academic
performance of learners. The development and quality assurance of learning resources
take a period in order that it will achieve its objectives.
