Week – 2 – DQ-2

Introduction

Personal data are the data related to a specific person who can identify. These
data can be telephone numbers, credit card information, medical records, some
financial information like monthly income and etc.

With the growth of the technology, people are using the internet for many
activities like social media, bank transactions, online shopping and many more.
During these online activities they have to use the personal data to prove their
identity.

Once you submit your personal details, this information will get stored in the
companies or organizations databases and servers. Here is the problem comes,
Who Own these data? Who holds the responsibility of the data? Company, You or
joint responsibility. Lets discuss more details in the following sections.

Who Owns Your Personal Data

In my opinion, the personal data are owned by you and the same time the
company or the organization will also own your personal data after you agreed to
share with them or agreed or allow to share your own you your personal data
with that company and organization. This can be considered as joint
responsibilities or joint ownership of the data.

However, enventhough the company won the customers personal data, they are
not possible to use those without informing the owners are the primary owners
are the customers. To protect the customers from various threats, there are some
various law enforcements such as HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act) for specially to protect the customers the medical data and for
their other data the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley (SOX).

Conclusion
With this, I conclude that, the personal data are primarily own by you, once you
decide to share with some third party the ownership of the data will be divided
with the third party user or the company.
