DEFINITION (WHO)
State of mental well-being that enables people to cope with
the stresses of life, realize their abilities and contribute to their
community
It determine our individual and collective abilities to make
decisions and build relationships
Mental health is a basic human right that is crucial to personal,
community and socio-economic development

EPIDEMIOLOGY
450 million people suffer from a mental health
problem that makes their lives difficult
1 in 4 people experience a mental disorder in
their lifetime
35-50% do not receive any adequate treatment
75% of mental health problems begin before the
age of 18
Mental disorders are the leading cause of
disability globally

Childhood trauma Low appetite
Domestic violence Poor quality of sleep
Sexual abuse Increased use of alcohol,
Social stress tobacco or drugs
Poverty & inequality Sudden mood changes
