In the event that a GSM device becomes locked, the user has the ability to re-enable the PIN mechanism by entering a Personal Unblocking Key ( PUK). If the PIN is locked, the user will see the following dialog box where they will have the opportunity to reset the PIN by entering a combination of the PUK and the new PIN in the following dialog box:

T-Mobile's Enhanced Network using WPA provides enhanced security using the WPA encryption (802.1x) standard.

What is a Closed Network? Closed networks are private networks that do not choose to broadcast their existence. T-Mobile webConnect Manager can detect when there are closed networks present simply because it "sees" unidentified broadcasts in the Wi-Fi frequency band. When this happens, it will display the word * closed* in the Wi-Fi networks list. However, T-Mobile webConnect Manager cannot detect the actual name of or establish a connection to a closed network unless you create a profile for that network. For more information, see the following:

T-Mobile Connection Manager Disabling Windows XP's Native Wi-Fi Client By default, Windows XP attempts to manage any wireless network connections it detects. However, this conflicts with the management functions provided by the TMobile webConnect Manager software. Like other conflicting applications, the client can automatically disable Windows XP's native Wi-Fi management feature while it runs and restart it when it shuts down. However, the feature can also be manually disabled if you desire. Manually Disabling XP's Wi-Fi Management You can tell Windows to disable its wireless network management functions manually. Follow these steps: 1. Right click on any network connection icon that appears in the system tray.

2. Select Open Network Connections from the menu that appears. The Windows XP Network Connections window appears. 3. Right click on the icon that corresponds to your wireless network connection. 4. Select Properties from the menu that appears. 5. Select the Wireless Networks tab. 6. Uncheck Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. 7. Click OK to close the window. Is this a problem on Windows Vista as Well? No. Although Windows Vista also manages Wi-Fi connections, the Vista architecture allows T-Mobile webConnect Manager to work with Vista's native Wi-Fi management facility. So, there is no conflict.

Establishing Wi-Fi Connections Wi-Fi Encryption Introduction to Wi-Fi Encryption Wireless networks may be vulnerable to attacks and monitoring if additional protection is not employed. In order to protect data, many wireless networks employ data encryption. Data encryption makes it much more difficult to be able to see sensitive information like login names and passwords. Authentication is used to verify the authenticity of the user and encryption is used to encode plain text into a nonreadable format to ensure a level of privacy. The receiver of this encrypted text uses a "key" to decrypt the message, returning it to its original plain text form. To access an encrypted network you will need the encryption key used by the network you wish to access. For more information on Wi-Fi Encryption and 802.1x Authentication, please see the following:

What is an Encryption Key? What is 802.1x Authentication? What Does " PSK" Stand For? Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA)

IEEE 802.1x is an authentication standard that greatly reduces the security vulnerabilities associated with connections to IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. The IEEE 802.11 wireless network standards specify two authentication methods: one that is based on identification of the wireless adapter (open system authentication) and the other that is based on a proof of knowledge of a secret key (shared key authentication). 802.1x enforces the authentication of the credentials of a wireless computer or user before allowing access to the wireless network and, depending on the actual authentication method used, determines encryption keys for wireless communication. If you connect to an 802.11 wireless local area network ( WLAN) without 802.1x authentication enabled, the data that you send is more vulnerable to attacks.

39

T-Mobile Connection Manager What is an Encryption Key? An encryption key is a code key used to encrypt data exchanged between an encrypted network and T-Mobile webConnect Manager . You cannot exchange data with an encrypted network without having the appropriate encryption key. There are two ways to obtain an encryption key:

Obtain a key from the administrator of the network you are trying to access. Configure 802.1x authentication according to the instructions of the network's administrator. A key will be provided automatically as part of the login process.

How to Access an Encrypted Network To connect to an encrypted network using a WEP or a WPA-PSK key: 1. Enter the network's encryption key in the Network Key and the Confirm Network Key fields. 2. Click Connect. If the network you are connecting to requires WPA, you will need to select the correct EAP type and press Connect to authenticate against the network. (When you are using WPA/802.1x authentication, the WEP/WPA network key areas will be grayed out.) Before you can successfully connect to an encrypted network, you must obtain the correct encryption key from the network administrator. No network profile is required for connecting to T-Mobile's WPA network. The network profile for tmobile1x is built in and you do not need to add a profile or change settings.

40

Establishing Wi-Fi Connections How to Change an Encryption Key When a network is added to the Network Profile list, all encryption information is saved with it. Therefore, you will not be asked for encryption information again when connecting. For security purposes, the network administrator may find it necessary to change the encryption key for the network. When this happens, you will need to update the encryption keys in the appropriate network profile to match the new keys specified by the network administrator. Follow these steps: 1. Click the Profiles button in the main window of the T-Mobile webConnect Manager software. The Network Profiles window appears. 2. Select the network for which you wish to edit the encryption keys. 3. Click the Edit button. 4. Switch to the Wi-Fi tab. 5. Enter the new encryption key in both the Network Key box and the Confirm Network Key box. 6. Click the OK button. Enabling 802.1x Authentication The 802.1x protocol is an IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) standard used to enforce authentication and access control at the data layer (the "level" where the software/operating system sends the data over the network). This standard has been embraced by a number of leading hardware and software vendors including Cisco, Microsoft, and Hewlett-Packard, and is already implemented in a variety of products designed for both wireless and wired networks. When used with wireless LANs, 802.1x also allows for dynamic WEP key generation (a type of one-time-use set of keys), thus solving the key distribution problem inherent to shared-key authentication. A shared-key authentication system is where every user has the same WEP key, making it easier for the key to be disclosed. 802.1x solves this inherent problem in WEP by facilitating the dynamic creation of encryption keys that cannot be lost or stolen and then used for unauthorized network access. It is important to note that 802.1x is not an encryption technology; rather 802.1x is used for authentication and key management.

41

T-Mobile Connection Manager 802.1x is used in many corporate environments for secure wireless network access. The vast majority of Wi-Fi equipment vendors support this standard as it can be used with a number of Extensible Authentication Protocols ( EAPs). T-Mobile webConnect Manager supports all the Microsoft EAP methods that come with the Operating System (currently EAP-TLS, PEAP, MD-5, and EAP-MSCHAP v2) and will support additional Microsoft EAP methods as they become available. Additionally, T-Mobile webConnect Manager is also bundled with an EAP-TTLS implementation, EAP-TTLS. To enable automatic 802.1x authentication, 1. Create a network profile for the Wi-Fi network that you wish to 802.1x authentication with. 2. Open the Network Profile window by clicking the Profiles button. 3. Select the Network Profile you wish to edit. 4. Click the Edit button. 5. Select the "Wi-Fi" tab. 6. Check the Enable data encryption box. 7. If you selected a WEP method, you will also have to check Enable 802.1x authentication. (if you selected WPA, this box was checked automatically). 8. From the EAP type dropdown, select the type of authentication you wish to enable.

42

Establishing Wi-Fi Connections Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) WEP was the standard encryption technology that was used in the early days of Wi-Fi networks. More secure methods, such as WPA have since emerged, but WEP remains an extremely popular choice for encrypted networks. There are two variants of WEP:

WEP Open: This is by far the most commonly-used version of WEP. Networks that use this variant don't bother to verify that you have the correct encryption key before allowing you to connect. After all, if you don't have the correct encryption key, you won't be able to communicate with the network anyway. WEP Shared: This variant forces you to prove you have the correct encryption key before it allows you to connect. It does this by sending out some sample text for T-Mobile webConnect Manager to encrypt. If the result that the network gets back is what it expected, then it allows you to connect. Ironically, this is somewhat less secure than WEP Open because the verification process used gives potential intruders a large hint about the contents of the encryption key.

Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA and WPA2) Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a key improvement to Wi-Fi data security for both enterprises and home users. It was developed when an industry trade group known as the Wi-Fi Alliance became concerned that the security in the existing WEP standard was insufficient. They quickly issued an interim standard that would address most of their concerns while they developed a more complete final standard. The interim standard would become known as WPA, while the final standard would be termed WPA2. Because 802.1x is a required component of WPA, both WPA and WPA2 provide an upgrade path for enterprises that allows them to preserve existing investments in 802.1x authentication capabilities. In addition, home and small office users can use a pre-shared key mode in WPA and WPA2 that allows the use of WPA's enhanced encryption and network protection capabilities without the overhead of added 802.1x network infrastructure. To use WPA, you will need a WPA-compliant Wi-Fi card.

43

T-Mobile Connection Manager What are TKIP and AES? TKIP and AES are different encryption protocols that can be used with WPA. TKIP is the method that was called for in the original WPA specification. AES, which is even more secure, was added as an alternate method to later versions of the specification. So, if the network uses WPA, but doesn't specify which of these it uses, TKIP is the most likely of these to be supported by the network. What Does " PSK" Stand For? PSK stands for "Pre-Shared Key." It simply means that the administrator of the network gave you the encryption key to enter prior to logging in (as opposed to 802.1x, which obtains the key dynamically at login time). How to Use EAP-TTLS To use EAP-TTLS with a network profile: 1. In the Network Profiles window, click the profile that you wish to use EAPTTLS. 2. Click Edit. 3. Click the Wi-Fi tab, and then select Enable 802.1x authentication check box. 4. In the EAP type list, click the desired selection of Smart Card or other Certificate, EAP-TTLS, or Protected EAP (PEAP), and then click Properties. 5. Check with your network administrator for Smart Card or other Certificate Properties settings. 6. Click OK to close the profile editing window. 7. Click Close to close the Profiles window. To connect to a configured network using EAP-TTLS, re-insert your Wi-Fi device. You may be asked to choose the certificate to use with EAP-TTLS, in which case you should select the one that was issued to you. T-Mobile webConnect Manager will display Obtaining IP address while it tries authenticating you to the network.

44

Establishing Wi-Fi Connections How to Install EAP-TTLS To use EAP-TTLS, you must already have an account in a domain that is setup to support EAP authentication. EAP-TTLS is pre-installed on Microsoft Windows XP machines. See System Requirements in the Help system. Enabling TTLS for Windows XP To use EAP-TTLS, you must already have an account in a domain that is setup to support EAP authentication.
To enable EAP-TTLS:

1. Make sure your operating system supports EAP-TTLS. 2. Enable trust of the domain by going to the Certificate Server. Using Internet Explorer, open http:// certificateserver.yourdomain.com/ certsrv. Enter your domain username (in the form domain\user if a domain field is not present), your password, and the domain name if the domain field is present. 3. Once authenticated, select Retrieve the CA certificate and click Next. 4. Click on Install this CA certification path. You may be asked to let " Microsoft Certificate Enrollment Control" execute, or to allow certificates installation from this web site, both of which you should allow. 5. When the Root Certificate Store dialog appears, select Yes. A message will display saying that the CA certificate has been successfully installed. 6. Return to http:// certificateserver.yourdomain.com/ certsrv, and select Request a certificate. 7. At the Choose Request Type dialog, select Advanced request. 8. If prompted, allow the certificate request.

14. Click Install this certificate on the Certificate Issued page. Again, if asked, allow installation of the certificates. The Certificate Installed page will display after successful installation of the certificate. TTLS Configuration TTLS (Tunneled Transport Level Security) is an authentication protocol developed by Funk Software and Certicom. Its function is to secure your login information by creating an encrypted "tunnel" between T-Mobile webConnect Manager and the Wi-Fi network's login server. When you select TTLS as the EAP type, you can configure the properties listed below. Use identity protection When this box is checked, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will send the text entered in the Name for anonymous login box in place of your real user name whenever the user name must be sent in an unencrypted format. This provides an added level of protection for your username. It is strongly recommended that this option is enabled whenever it is allowed by the administrator of the network you are connecting to. Verify server's certificate When this box is checked, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will require that the login server provide certification from a trusted authority before it sends its own authentication credentials. Server name must contain If text is entered in this box, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will require that the name in the login server's certification contains the text entered. This extra measure 46

Establishing Wi-Fi Connections can be used when you want to ensure that the login server is provided by a particular company or organization. If the box is left blank, no specific text will be required. Phase2 authentication type Specify the preferred protocol for phase two of TTLS authentication. The options for TTLS are PAP and CHAP. CHAP is the more secure option, but is not supported on all TTLS login servers. Ask the administrator of the network you are trying to access which option is preferred. Allow authentication using a certificate If you have a personal certificate installed on your computer, checking this box allows you to use that certificate instead of entering a username and password. Note that some servers do not support logging in this way. Use session resumption Session resumption (or fast reconnect) allows you to reconnect to a network without going through the full login process, if you have been connected to the network within the last few minutes. For example, this allows you to quickly reconnect after an accidental disconnection. Note that session resumption must be enabled on the login server. Cache username and password When this box is checked, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will remember your username password so that you do not have to enter them each time you log into this network.

Usage Meter
Data Usage Introduction T-Mobile webConnect Manager allows you to monitor your data usage with the Usage Meter. The amount of data transferred is expressed in either Kilobytes ( KB), Megabytes ( MB), Gigabytes (GB) or Terabytes (TB). The amount of data transmitted or received will depend on the type of files accessed. Text files will typically use relatively small amounts of data. Graphics files and music files will typically use larger amounts of data. Video files will use very large amounts of data. Your usage will vary depending on how often you are using the network and the type of information being transmitted and received. The type of data plan you have will determine how much data may be transferred before incurring additional charges. For example, if you are on a 5GB plan, any data transmission over the 5GB limit will incur additional charges. Creating and Managing Network Profiles

Network Profiles are networks that you have saved at connection time using the autoconnect options or have manually added to the Network Profiles network list. Creating Network Profiles have the following advantages:

You can configure the client to automatically connect to a Network Profile whenever that network is available. If the last network you connected to is not available at a particular location, the T-Mobile webConnect Manager software will display a network from your list of network profiles in the main window (if one is available). This allows the same easy, one click connecting to an alternate network. You can automate steps in the connection process like entering an encryption key or logging into a VPN so that you don't have to perform these actions each time you connect.

Moreover, you must have a profile for the following:

You cannot connect to a closed Wi-Fi network unless you create a "closed network" Network Profile. You must have a network profile for each Broadband network that you wish to connect to. The default order for Network Profiles is as follows:

User Defined Wi-Fi Profiles T-Mobile Wi-Fi Profiles (including T-Mobile @Home Profiles) T-Mobile Broadband Profiles

T-Mobile Connection Manager Profile Priorities In the Network Profiles Window, profiles are listed in order of priority. When selecting a network to connect to, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will go down the list from top to bottom, selecting the first network profile for which all of the following are true.

The network described by the profile is available You have a device capable of connecting to the network connected to your computer and ready The Connection Options field on the General tab in the profile's configuration is set to either "Automatic" or "Prompt" The profile is not "Other Connections" (see below)

Profile priority also determines when T-Mobile webConnect Manager will automatically switch from one network to another. If you are connected to one network and a higher priority network becomes available, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will switch to the higher priority network. Changing Profile Priority To change the priority of a specific profile, select the profile whose priority you would like to change. Then, click the Up button or the Down button to move the profile up or down the list. "Other Connections" Unlike the rest of the items in the network profiles list, "Other Connections" is not a network profile. It is simply a placeholder for all network connections of types that are not managed by the T-Mobile webConnect Manager software. The placement of this item in the list determines how high priority these "other" connections should be considered. If "Other Connections" appears higher in the list than your current connection and you connect a network of "other" type to your computer, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will automatically shut down its current (lower priority) connection. For example, if you had a local network connection of a type that is not managed by T-Mobile webConnect Manager and you wanted T-Mobile webConnect Manager to shut down any wireless connections it manages whenever you connected to your local network, you would simply move "Other Connections" above all your wireless network profiles in the list. If, on the other hand, you did not want T-Mobile webConnect Manager to disconnect in this situation, you could leave it at the bottom of the list.

60

T-Mobile Connection Manager Profile Properties: General This tab contains settings that apply to all types of Network Profiles. Note that some of these options may not be available if you are configuring a profile created by your network service provider. Profile Name Enter a name for this network profile. This is how the network profile will be displayed in the Network Profiles window. Connection Options This setting controls what T-Mobile webConnect Manager will do when it detects the network you are configuring. There are three options:

Select Automatic if you want the T-Mobile webConnect Manager to automatically connect to this network whenever it is detected. Select Prompt me if you want the T-Mobile webConnect Manager to ask you whether to connect to this network each time the network is detected. Select Manual if you only want to connect to this network manually (by selecting it from the list of networks and clicking Connect).

VPN Auto Launch Check this box if you would like to automatically launch your default VPN profile when you establish a connection to this network. Enable Application Launcher If this box is checked, the T-Mobile webConnect Manager software will launch the applications listed on the App Launcher tab of the Settings window whenever it establishes a connection to the network whose profile you are configuring. If this box is not checked, the specified applications will not be launched. Disable IE's Manual Proxy Settings... If you normally connect to the Internet through a proxy server (this is common on corporate LANs), you may experience difficulty connecting to the Internet with Internet Explorer when you are traveling. This is because Internet Explorer is trying to connect through a proxy server that is on your home network rather than on the network to which you are connected. 64

Creating and Managing Network Profiles If this is the case, you may wish to disable Internet Explorer's proxy settings while you are connected to other networks. Check this box to disable proxy settings while you are connected using this profile. If you wish to configure specific proxy settings to be used with this connection, click the Settings button. Launch Browser Window on Connect Check this box to automatically launch your browser each time you connect to this network. If you want the browser to start at a particular web page each time you connect to this network, enter the address of the desired web page in the box below.

65

T-Mobile Connection Manager Profile Properties: IP The IP Settings page allows you to configure the Internet Protocol (IP) addressing to be used with this Profile. You will not need to alter these values unless specifically instructed to by your administrator. Profile IP Address These top group of settings specify the IP address that your system will use when connected to this network. The default selection, Obtain IP address automatically, instructs T-Mobile webConnect Manager to ask the network to assign it an appropriate address each time it connects. This is the correct setting for most network profiles. However, if the network does not support automatic address assignment, you can enter appropriate values manually by clicking Use the following IP address. Contact the administrator of the network whose profile you are configuring to obtain appropriate values for these fields. Profile DNS server These lower group of settings specify the address of the name server that your system should use to translate names (i.e. " t-mobile.com") to numerical addresses when connected to this network. The default selection, Obtain DNS server address automatically, instructs T-Mobile webConnect Manager to ask the network to provide the address of a name server each time it connects. This is the correct setting for most network profiles. However, if the network does not support automatic DNS server assignment, you can enter appropriate values manually by clicking Use the following DNS server address. Contact the administrator of the network whose profile you are configuring to obtain appropriate values for these fields. Alternately, click the Advanced button to configure detailed settings for DNS and WINS servers.

66

Creating and Managing Network Profiles Proxy Settings The proxy settings window is used to configure settings for Internet Explorer that will be used only for connections via the profile being created or edited. Primarily, this window is used to specify a proxy server that will be used for the connection. A proxy server acts as an intermediary between your local network and the Internet, forwarding requests for web pages and other data from individual users to the Internet. This allows the computers on the local network to remain largely invisible to external parties, rendering those computers somewhat less likely to malicious attack. Note that automatic settings in the top section of this window override any manually specified proxy server in the lower section. If you want to manually specify a proxy server, make sure the top two boxes remain unchecked. Automatically detect settings If this box is checked, your browser will automatically detect proxy server and other configuration settings used to connect to the Internet. Automatic configuration settings are contained in a file provided by your network administrator. Use Automatic configuration script Check this box if your browser should use configuration information contained in a file provided by your network administrator. The file might include settings for options such as what home page to use or configuration settings for the proxy server. Use the Address space below to enter either the filename or a URL for the file you wish to use. Use a proxy server for this connection Check this box if you want your browser to use a proxy server when accessing the Internet. Then, enter the address and TCP port number of the proxy server through which you wish to connect in the spaces provided. Click the Advanced button to access more detailed settings for this proxy server.

67

T-Mobile Connection Manager Bypass proxy server for local addresses Because a proxy server acts as a security barrier between your local network and the rest of the Internet, you may not actually need it when accessing other computers on your local network. Checking this box allows you to avoid using the proxy server in these cases. Proxy Settings: Advanced The Advanced Proxy Settings window allows you to configure detailed proxy server settings. There are two groups of settings here: Servers If you want to specify separate proxy servers for each protocol, enter the addresses and port numbers of the servers you wish to use here. Otherwise, check the Use the same proxy server for all protocols box. Exceptions Provides a space for you to type the web addresses that do not need to be accessed through your proxy server. If you want to connect to a computer on your local network, type its address in this box. For example, type "joe1" if you want to access a computer named joe1. You can use wild cards to match domain and host names or addressesfor example, www.*. com, 128*, *. mygroup.* and so on.

Roaming With T-Mobile webConnect Manager

What is Roaming? Roaming with T-Mobile webConnect Manager and the webConnect Laptop Stick Lite Roaming lets you access the Internet while traveling away from home, whether domestically or internationally. For example, if T-Mobile US customers go to a Wi-Fi hostpot in London, they could access the Internet with a wireless connection through one of our roaming partner networks. Connection Manager allows you to roam on any Wi-Fi network partner for an additional charge, however, EDGE or non-3G roaming outside the T-Mobile network is restricted. We cannot guarantee the same speeds or performance offered while roaming on other networks, therefore, we have decided to restrict it. You can still use GSM GPRS, or EDGE if those connections are available to you in a T-Mobile service area, free of charge, but we strongly recommend you leverage the fastest available connection such as 3G or Wi-Fi. The Terms and Conditions of the roaming locations network, including its security and privacy policies, will apply instead of T-Mobiles during a roaming session. Who Can Roam Wi-Fi Roaming requires that you have:

A T-Mobile webConnect Data Plan which includes T-Mobile HotSpot access. A properly installed Wi-Fi 802.11b/g wireless network card.

For a list of T-Mobile HotSpot roaming partners, use the HotSpot Locator. Roaming With Wi-Fi T-Mobile HotSpot customers can use the T-Mobile webConnect Manager to connect to a T-Mobile HotSpot Roaming Partner by logging in with their assigned Username and Password.

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are private networks that can be accessed over a public backbone network (like the Internet) without compromising their privacy. Typically, they maintain their privacy by forming secure (encrypted) "tunnels" directly to users who access them. Automatically Launching a VPN Connection You can configure any network profile to automatically connect to a Virtual Private Network whenever you connect using that profile. Follow these steps: 1. If you have not already done so, configure the connection settings for the VPN you wish to connect to. (see Configuring a VPN Connection). 2. Open the Network Profiles window.

3. In the left pane, select the profile for which you want to automate VPN connection. 4. Click the Edit button. The properties sheet for the selected profile appears. 5. If the General tab is not already selected, select it now. 6. Check the Auto Launch box in the VPN section. 7. Click OK to exit the window. 8. Repeat steps 3 through 7 for any additional profiles that you want to autolaunch your VPN connection with.

75

T-Mobile Connection Manager Configuring a VPN Connection Follow these steps to configure a VPN connection: 1. Consult the administrator of the VPN you wish to access. The administrator will provide you with VPN client software and instructions for establishing VPN connections using that software. 2. If the VPN client software is not already installed on your system, install it now. ( Microsoft's VPN client is pre-installed on most versions of Windows). 3. Open the T-Mobile webConnect Manager software. 4. Access the VPN settings tab by selecting the Settings option from the Tools drop down menu and then clicking the 'VPN' tab. 5. 76

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

Connecting to a Virtual Private Network (VPN) There are two ways to connect to a Virtual Private Network:

Configure a network profile to automatically launch a VPN connection when you connect to the network (see Automatically launching a VPN connection). Whenever you are connected to the Internet, you can launch a configured VPN connection by pressing the VPN button in the Main Window.

Supported VPN Clients T-Mobile webConnect Manager currently supports VPN clients from the following vendors:

Microsoft Cisco Nortel Checkpoint (please see Using the Checkpoint VPN Client for important caveats) NetMotion (please see Using the NetMotion VPN Client for important caveats)

Using the Checkpoint VPN Client Although CheckPoint's VPN client provides a command line interface that applications such as T-Mobile webConnect Manager can use to establish connections, the user cannot access other modes of the CheckPoint VPN client while the client is in command line mode. What does this mean for CheckPoint VPN users? Essentially, you should keep T-Mobile webConnect Manager open only when you have an active connection managed by TMobile webConnect Manager open. If you want to establish another type of connection with the CheckPoint VPN client, you MUST shut down T-Mobile webConnect Manager first. When T-Mobile webConnect Manager shuts down, it will put the VPN client back into a mode that users can access. Using the NetMotion VPN Client NetMotion's VPN client takes complete control of all data communication to and from a PC. This forces all data communication applications to go through the "tunnel" it creates. However, T-Mobile webConnect Manager needs to bypass this tunnel in order to establish connections. T-Mobile webConnect Manager will accomplish this in one of the following ways:

77

T-Mobile Connection Manager

The NetMotion VPN client maintains a list of applications that are allowed to bypass its VPN tunnel. If your VPN administrator has added T-Mobile webConnect Manager to this list, T-Mobile webConnect Manager can establish connections without interrupting the operation of the NetMotion client. If T-Mobile webConnect Manager has not been added to NetMotion's bypass list, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will detect that the NetMotion client is interfering with its operations when it attempts to establish a connection. When this happens, it will instruct the NetMotion client to enter bypass mode (which allows all applications to bypass its tunnel) while the connection is being established. Once the connection has been successfully established, TMobile webConnect Manager will return the NetMotion client to its normal operating mode.

78

T-Mobile Connection webConnect Settings

The Settings Window The "Settings" window allows you to configure the behavior of the T-Mobile webConnect Manager software. It is a list of all the devices connected to your computer that may be used to establish network connections. Among other things, you can do the following here:

You can enable and disable individual devices. If you have multiple devices of the same type, you can choose which one to use. You can configure extended properties for Mobile and Dialup devices.

For more information, see The Device List. Allow simultaneous connections If this box is checked, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will allow you to establish more than one connection at a time (for example, you could be connected to both Wi-Fi and Mobile concurrently). If this box is NOT checked, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will prompt you to disconnect before allowing you to establish a second connection. By default, allow simultaneous connections is turned off. Prompt before switching connections The T-Mobile webConnect Manager software can automatically switch to a higher priority network if one becomes available. However, since the original connection is shut down once the new connection is fully established, this has the potential to disrupt any activity that was relying on the original connection. If this box is checked, T-Mobile webConnect Manager will prompt you for permission to switch networks before it actually does so. Usage Meter
Data Usage Introduction T-Mobile webConnect Manager allows you to monitor your data usage with the Usage Meter. The amount of data transferred is expressed in either Kilobytes (KB), Megabytes (MB), Gigabytes (GB) or Terabytes (TB). You will receive a free SMS Message from T-Mobile when you have exceeded your data plan limit. You may also check your usage at my.t-mobile.com. Byte A Byte is equal to 8 bits. A bit being the smallest unit which represents either a zero or one. A Byte can represent 256 states of information, such as a combination of letters and numbers or symbols. Kilobyte A Kilobyte is 1024 bytes. (Approximately 1000 bytes). Text and small graphics files are typically in the Kilobyte range. Megabyte A Megabyte is equal to 1024 Kilobytes. Creating and Managing Network Profiles

Network Profiles are networks that have been installed or have been manually added to the Network Profiles network list. Creating Network Profiles have the following advantages:

You can configure the client to automatically connect to a Network Profile whenever that network is available. If the last network you connected to is not available at a particular location, the T-Mobile webConnect Manager software will connect to a network from your list of network profiles. T-Mobile webConnect Manager come preconfigured with Wi-Fi network profiles. You can automate steps in the connection process like launching a browser so that you don't have to perform these actions each time you connect.

Roaming With T-Mobile webConnect Manager

Roaming with T-Mobile webConnect Manager and the webConnect Laptop Stick or webConnect Jet What is Roaming? Roaming lets you access the Internet while traveling away from home, whether domestically or internationally. You can still use Broadband if those connections are available to you in a T-Mobile service area, free of charge, but we strongly recommend you leverage the fastest available connection such as 3G or Wi-Fi. The Terms and Conditions of the roaming locations network, including its security and privacy policies, will apply instead of T-Mobiles during a roaming session. T-Mobile webConnect Manager will automatically identify the network of each TMobile roaming partner and provide the proper credentials to access the roaming partner's network. Periodic updates of these roaming partners are accomplished when software updates are downloaded to your computer. Who Can Roam Wi-Fi Roaming requires that you have: A T-Mobile webConnect Data Plan which includes T-Mobile HotSpot access or access though one of T-Mobile's roaming partners. For a list of T-Mobile HotSpot roaming partners, use the HotSpot Locator.

53

Default Subscriber Realm T-Mobile webConnect Manager uses the default realm of "t-mobile.us" for T-Mobile U.S. Subscribers. For example if the Username entered was John, the assumed realm would be @t-mobile.us.

54

Roaming With T-Mobile webConnect Manager Custom Authentication Realm You can override the default realm by providing the realm in the Username field.
