*PO4: Able to conduct investigation of complex engineering problems using research-based

knowledge (wk8) and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and
interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions
PLAGIARISM AND COLLUSION
Plagiarism: using another person’s ideas, designs, words or works without appropriate acknowledgement.
Collusion: unauthorised collaboration with another person on assessable written, oral or practical work and
includes paying another person to complete all or part of the work.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM AND COLLUSION

The penalties associated with plagiarism and collusion are designed to impose sanctions on offenders that reflect
the seriousness of the University’s commitment to academic integrity. UiTM penalties range from receiving
deduction/a result of zero for the assessment work, failing the course, and suspension from classes.

DECLARATION:
• I declare that all material in this assessment is my own work except where there is clear acknowledgement
and reference to the work of others.
• I understand the consequences of this academic misconduct, as explained above.

purposes of assessment and to be copied, submitted to and retained by the University's plagiarism detection
software provider for the purposes of electronic checking of plagiarism.

QUESTION

Under the Madani Project, which is to develop a water supply system with water sources from the
nearby river in various locations of the Orang Asli villages (see Table 1 and choose location according
to group), a pump namely Rahmah Pump (Figure 1) has been selected in the project. As a group of
mechanical engineers in the Public Works Department, you have been given the task of installing
Rahmah Pump and piping system to transfer water from the river to a tank located on the ground (see
Figure 2). While completing your task, please provide the following;

1. Draw a clearly labeled diagram of your piping system and include all dimensions.

2. Choose a pump impeller diameter and list all assumptions of your piping system including the use
of elbows and valves etc (minor losses). The flow can be assumed to be fully turbulent.

3. Show the equations, all work, calculations, and tabulated data.

4. Using Microsoft Excel, plot and label your system curve and pump performance curve and
determine the operating head and the flow rate of your pumping system.

5. Calculate the pump power requirement based on the obtained pump efficiency at your operating
flow rate.

Note: Assume density of water is 1000 kg/m3
