The researcher conducted academic research on journals to support including fingerprint technology in a hotel management solution system. They investigated existing hotel management systems in the market as well as academic works implementing fingerprint authentication. While current systems offered solutions, none used fingerprint authentication and still required physical keys. The focus of the project is to computerize the system and replace keys with fingerprint authentication. The researcher found academic journals demonstrating fingerprint technology improved security for banking and voting that supported it as a reliable identification authentication tool.

In addition to researching comparable products in the market, the researcher has also carried out some research on academic journals to support the reason for including fingerprint technology in the solution system. 3.2 Research Relevance The researcher has investigated a number of systems which are available in the market and also some academic scholars who implemented fingerprint technology to resolve authentication related problems. All the systems in Table 3.1 do offer good solutions for hotel management, however, none of the systems are offering fingerprint authentication. In short, with these systems, the customers still need the physical keys to access the rooms. The focus of this project is to computerise the hotel management system, and also to replace the physical keys with fingerprint authentication, therefore the researcher has found some academic journals which are relevant to fingerprint technology. For example, the journals with the title ‘Designing a Biometric Strategy (Fingerprint) Measure for Enhancing ATM Security in Indian E-Banking System’ and ‘Finger Print Enabled Electronic Voting Machine with Enhanced Security’ have shown that fingerprint technology has been deployed to improve security of the banking and voting systems. With these evidences, the researcher believes that fingerprint technology is a reliable tool to authenticate identification.
