Basketball Unit Skills Breakdown

Skills:

A- Offense
1. Stand in an open position
2. Maintain athletic stance to be able to move quick
3. Move towards your team’s basket
4. Cut in angular positions to throw off the other team’s balance
5. Remain distanced from your teammate to create open space
6. Perform fake moves to throw off the other team
7. All offensive moves should be purposeful and made with intent
8. Create a screen for your teammate who has the ball by standing in the defense’s way
9. Drive towards basket with force and acceleration
10.Always be moving, never stop and stay in one place for too long
B- Defense
1. Maintain good body balance to change movement motion without worry
2. Keep a defensive stance, low center of gravity with weight distributed evenly
3. Stay positioned between the opposition and the basket
4. Keep eyes focused on players hips to prevent being faked out
5. Keep arms out and up to block the opponent pass
6. When opposition stops dribbling, pressure them to force a pass

C- Passing

D- Dribbling
1. Keep eyes and head up as much as possible

7. Bounce ball above waist but below high chest

E- Shooting
1. Bend knees to help generate power and provide balance
2. Keep shoulders square to the target

4. Keep the shooting arm’s elbow directly under the ball.

6. Use the backboard to bounce the shot down into the basket
7. Maintain balance, by not leaning or swaying
