CHP and Micro CHP
CHP and Micro CHP
CSH (Code for Sustainable Homes) CHP offers an economic and environmentally friendly alternative to meeting thermal and electrical
demands in many applications.
Renewable Energy Statements for
Planning Applications
CHP systems can also provide cooling through the use of absorption chillers that utilise heat as their
Air Pressure Testing energy source.
Ground Source Heat Pump The benefits of CHP when compared to importing electricity and using boilers to generate heat include;
Air Source Heat Pump
Savings on total energy costs for the user, Improved efficiency of fuel use, Reduced emissions,
Independence & security of power supply, Exemption from the Climate Change Levy for energy costs.
Solar Panels
The UK Government is committed to increasing the country's CHP capacity and it forms a key element

of it's strategy to reduce the country greenhouse gas emissions. It is widely predicted that further
CHP and Micro CHP legislation and incentives will be introduced in the near future to encourage the use of CHP.
Micro CHP
Generating free electricity while you heat your home sounds like a good deal. Not only could it save
you money, but it also might reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Micro CHP (micro Combined Heat & Power) is the simultaneous production of heat and electricity in
individual homes. Like a boiler, a micro CHP appliance heats a home's heating and hot water system,

04/12/12 CHP and micro CHP
There are two main varieties of domestic micro CHP: stirling engines and fuel cells.
Stirling engines produce between 6kWh and 10kWh of heat for every 1kWh of electricity. The more
heat they produce, the more electricity they generate, which means lower emissions and more money
saved.
Fuel cells convert hydrogen and oxygen (the fuel) directly into electricity without any mechanical drive
or generator. Heat is produced as a bi-product of the electrochemical process, with water as a waste
product.
