How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

● Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
the teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and
mostly practice based.

Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher
facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the
classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s
morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class,
or publishing it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

I will begin the lesson by sharing with the students what the day’s lesson will be about. We will
then read the goals and I can statements as a class and ask and answer any questions or
uncertainties about the goals for the day. I will then have students take 2 minutes to turn to their
elbow partner and ask if they prefer cookies or cake and share why. Once students are done I will
share with them that what they have just done with their partner is shared their opinions about a
topic. Next, I will hand each student a copy of a poem about summer and then hand them a
prompt asking if they prefer cooler or warmer summers and why. Along with the poems students
will be given graphic organizers where they can plan their writing and podcast response. After
completing their organizers I will share my opinion-based podcast and also share with them the

steps taken to create the response using Spotify for podcasters. I will offer students the chance to
speak with me privately about any questions or misunderstandings. Students will then begin to
create their podcasts and as they work I will monitor and offer assistance and feedback. To
conclude the lesson I will have each student share their response with a partner and after the
partner will write their wishes, wonders, and likes on a sticky note for the creator.

Managing student learning:
Spotify for podcasters offers students the chance to create opinion-based podcasts that can be
shared in and out of the classroom. To keep students engaged when technology is in use I will
have students complete a graphic organizer to pre-plan and organize their thoughts. By providing
students with this time I decrease the time students will be using their devices leaving students
eager to use the device when they can. If students at any point during their creation students have
questions or concerns they will be required to ask three classmates and then me.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: The UDL principle that will be focused on in this
lesson will be Multiple means of action and expression. While using this device students will have
access to google translate as well as Speechnote a tool made available to transcribe recordings
and dictate notes. The use of Spotify and SpeechNotes enhances the learning experience by
breaking language barriers and they create transcriptions that are available outside of lessons.

Reflection: I believe that by incorporating audio in the classroom students are provided with cues
that strengthen memory and give clear concepts of what they are learning. I look forward to
reading the wishes, likes, and wonders shared among the students as this will allow me to see
whether the students provided clear opinions and a sense of closure.
