II. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

Livestock and animal husbandry are part of the agricultural subsectors

in the municipality. However, occurrence of pest and diseases are prevalent
and recurring, thus affecting livestock production and farmers income.

Settling farmers of the Municipality of Kiamba are engaged to animal

production due to vast agricultural land. Idle farm area was converted to
pasture and farm production site. It also has a palatable pasture grasses and
abundant agricultural products which increases the production of animals. To
support such, the Local Government of Kiamba through the Office of the
Municipal Agriculturist formulated a program on livestock production training
and Management Program with starter kits in the form of feeds to address
animal production problem and for effectiveness and efficiency of production.

This Animal Production Training and Management Program budgeted

for the capacitation of local farmers through trainings and the purchase of
Livestock Feeds as a starter kit. When implemented it will help ensure the
success of livestock livelihood Projects in our municipality.

III. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The main objective is to support local farmers with livelihood training

and capacitate local producers with technical know-how in Swine, goat and
rabbit production, together with starter kits in the form of animal feeds
assuring animal survivability which will result to reduced risk of animal
deaths caused by mishandling and lack of knowledge in livestock production.
a. General (Development/Sectoral Goal) – to increase animal
production in the municipality
- Increase farmers income eventually

b. Specific (Project Purpose) – To conduct training aiming to provide

adequate knowledge to local livestock farmers

V. PROJECT MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE AND APPROACH

6 Barangay Animal Health Worker/ Monitoring

The implementing agency is OMAg which spearheaded by the Municipal
Agriculturist and the program will be carry out by the livestock coordinator
to the livestock raisers of the municipality and will be conducted at
Municipal Nursery Training Hall. Monitoring will also be under the OMAg
with its 6 Animal Health Workers.

VI. SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL JUSTIFICATION

With the impact of ASF in the western barangays pork meat supplies
in the municipality decreases due to animal deaths, and with relation to
lack of knowledge in farm biosecurity in individual small scale farmers the
effect of ASF is almost uncontrollable and swine production collapses while
demanding higher market value.
In relation with this scenario same outbreaks could repeatedly occur
without proper knowledge of our local farmer, and the same situation could
happen to other livestock, therefore this program can be a great support to
our local small scale farmers resulting to higher yield and meat production
in the long run.

VII. MONITORING AND EVALUATION

The activity will be monitored and evaluated by the Office of the Municipal
Agriculturist on a regular monthly basis. And will establish a mechanism tool
that will be used during the activity execution. A report from individual
farmers will be gathered and discussed together with the Provincial
Augmented Brgy. Animal Health Worker
