3.3 Wiring of VT7900(A)/VT7870/VT7970/VT7971 module

The Ethernet RJ45 connector on board is used for the connection to the PLC chip (Power Line
Communication), see also chapter 5.4.

The RJ45 connection is used for two different use cases:

1) To observe the Smart Charging communication between an EV and EVSE in your CANoe
simulation in the "real mode" (see also chapter 7)

a) A real vehicle EV is connected to the VT module simulated as EVSE.

b) A real charging station EVSE is connected to the VT module simulated as EV.
c) A VT module is simulated as EVSE and another VT module is simulated as EV. In this case it
is recommended to use two different PCs. On the first PC the EV simulation is running and on
the second PC the EVSE simulation is running.

In the following chapter 3.3.x is explained how to connect the RJ45 Ethernet cable.

Hint 1
If you simulate the Smart Charging communication between an EV and EVSE in the "simulated mode"
you don't need the RJ45 Ethernet connection. Use the sample "SmartChargingBasic.cfg".

Hint 2
You can use the CCS Listener VH5110 if you use two VT modules (EV/ EVSE) and both PLC chips
are connected using an Ethernet cable. See KnowledgeBase article How to Connect the VH5110.

2) To configure your VT module as a simulated EV or EVSE module (see also chapter 6)

The VT module must be configurated as a simulated EV or simulated EVSE module, see chapter 6
"Configuring the PHY for Power Line Communication (PLC)".
The default value of a new VT module is switched to "Off". Optionally you could flash the firmware,
change the MAC address, … The other end of the RJ45 cable should be connected to the Ethernet
network port of your local computer.

3.3.4 High-level communication with VN5000 series interface

Channel-based:
If you are using a Vector VN5000 family interface, you must assign CANoe Ethernet1 to the physical
channel of the interface, which is connected with the VT7870/7970/7971:

Page 5
VT System for Smart Charge Communication

Please note that the first listed channel is the physical channel which is labeled with "Eth1" on your
interface.
Network-based:
If you are using a Vector VN5000 family interface, you have to configure the interface and the CANoe
configuration first. Please see the article Migrate Configuration to Network-Based Concept Manually.

3.3.5 High-level communication with VT6051A, VT6051, VT6011

One difference compared to the description before:

Troubleshooting with VT6060 / VT6020 real-time module

Network-based mode:

If the generic network card can't be selected manually or automatically in the "Application Channel
mapping" and the "Vector Network driver" version is 2.1.9 you need to update the driver.

Please contact the Vector support.

4 Connection settings
For communication between VT7870/VT7970/VT7971 and VN5000 family series, the CANoe IP stack
must be configured manually.

Also, the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses must be configured manually if not specified by the OEM. For IPv4, a
static IP address has to be specified if no DHCP server in the network is available. For IPv6, a static or
stateless IP address has to be set, if no DHCP server is available in the network.

4.2 VT System using VT6000 series real-time module

> The VT6000 series module is preconfigured to the IP address 192.168.100.1

(subnet mask 255.255.255.0).
> The network adapter in the CANoe PC must be configured in the same IP range
(for example 192.168.100.2, subnet 255.255.255.0).
> The VT6000 series can also be used in the company network. Please contact
your internal IT department for instructions.

4.3 Communication between PC and VT backplane

Without using VT6000 no IP settings are needed for the communication between the PC and
the VT backplane, because the communication protocol is EtherCAT .

No company network and/or Ethernet switch is allowed, only a point-to-point connection.

Otherwise, the EtherCAT protocol is disturbed and will not work properly.
