Dear UPSC, it's high time you rename

C(S)AT as CAT!
CSAT (Paper 2) of Prelims 2023 is way too lengthy, difficult, and
so unconventional.

1. Fundamentally Lengthy
● 80 questions in 120 minutes. So, each question is to take not more than 1.5
minutes.
○ But, more questions took 4-5 minutes to solve this time. That is, at
least a minute's time went into comprehension and this happened
with candidates who had been through sufficient practice.

2. Unparalleled Difficulty Level

● Those well-versed in the prescribed syllabus, found the paper tough.
○ This is because the questions were not of Class X level, as mentioned
in UPSC syllabus.
○ Even the CAT and GMAT questions should be comparatively easier.
They aim to test the participants' ability to apply their knowledge. But,
CSAT isn't so now.
● To surprise public service aspirants, UPSC had no questions based on
Averages, Profit and Loss, Mixtures and Alligations, Partnerships,
Directions, Clocks, Time, Speed and Distance and Geometry. These topics
pave way for practical applicability in Public Administration, but hardly a question
appeared from any of these. And how not to mention the many questions
that totally lacked relevance to Public Service Administration?

3. Way Too Unconventional

● UPSC seems to have silently broadened the syllabus, instead of looking for
candidates' in-depth understanding in important topics.
● In fact, no UPSC board member can solve more than 50-60 questions in 2
hours this time. In other words, even a Class X genius cannot crack this
paper.
● UPSC must come out straight now.
○ What a public service aspirant needs to crack CSAT in the coming times?
○ What UPSC is looking for in future bureaucrats of this amazing Bharat?
● UPSC should not tarnish the dreams of millions of Indian youth who are
steadily readying themselves to serve the nation. Just to make CSAT
unpredictable, making it unconventional is unacceptable. UPSC should
strictly adhere to the syllabus it has itself put forth that CSAT should be an
acceptable qualifier regardless of one's exposure to maths.
