data sheets and proof of code compliance.
2. Manufacturer's instructions for installation, factory and field quality control testing and
Facade Sub Contractor's checklists for factory and field QA/QC.
C. Certificates:
1. Certificate of Manufacturer's Approval: All sealants must be used only with the prior
approval of their manufacturer for the intended application. The Facade Sub Contractor
shall be responsible for obtaining this approval and submit. Application of sealant
materials shall not commence until the approval has been obtained from the
manufacturer.
D. The certificate of approval shall indicate:
1. The drawing number, the date and any revision thereto with regards to all the relevant
design, performance and test criteria set out in this specification to which the certificate
applies.

2. The sealant's adhesion and compatibility with all components to which it will come into
contact and/or required to adhere to.
3. The life expectancy of the sealant materials detailed and specified.
4. Warranty confirmations for each application.
5. Approval of joint design and dimension.
6. Approval that joint can accommodate the anticipated thermal movement of the
components to which the sealant shall be applied.
7. For weather sealants: The value of the Movement Accommodation Factor (MAF) for
each type of weather sealant as per BS 6093. The MAF is defined as the total
movement which a sealant is capable of tolerating throughout its working life expressed
as a percentage of the minimum joint width.
8. Reports indicating results of pre-installation testing specified herein.
E. Calculations:
1. Structural sealant joint design: Provide calculations for structural bite, dead load support,
glue line thickness, shear, and other parameters. Show compliance with performance
criteria and applicable loads.
F. Where applicable, structural sealant calculations for cold bending induced stress.
1. Sealant joint to comply with the following as minimum:
a. Glue line thickness: 6 mm minimum.
b. Structural bite: 6 mm minimum and equal to or greater than glue line thickness.
c. Bite-to-glue line ratio: Between 1:1 and 3:1, unless otherwise approved by
manufacturer.
d. Joint shall be designed to be filled with standard sealant application procedures.
e. Avoid three-sided sealant adhesion by use of backer rod or bond breaker tape.
f. Permanent stress of sealant due to cold bending shall be considered along with
effects of movement, and any other stresses induced by other applicable loads as
well as effects of relative movement.
g. Finite element analysis shall be provided.taking into consideration modulous of the
sealant.
h. Final approval of sealant design shall be provided by sealant manufacturer and
submitted for approval.
G. IGU sealant joint design:
1. Indicate dimensions on shop drawings, in line with the following:
a. If continuous toggle rebate is used, the thickness of the outer sealant shall exceed
6mm (distance from inside of outer glass lite to outer surface of toggle rebate)
b. If localized toggle rebate channels are used, the bite behind the localized channels
shall exceed 3 mm and the total length of the independent localized toggle rebate
channels shall not exceed 40% of the perimeter of the IGU.
c. Provide justification of the sealant provided along the perimeter.
H. Weather sealant joint design:
1. Provide calculation to show the joint width and the movement capacity of the proposed
sealant adequately allows for the required movement allowances, indicate on shop
drawings.
I. Shop drawings:
1. Shop drawings shall indicate accurate detailing of sealant joints and indicating
dimensions, materials, structural bite, glueline thickness, joint profile, and support
framing.
2. Shopdrawings shall be reviewed and approved by Sealant Manufacturer as part of the
final approval criteria prior to fabrication commencement.

J. Test reports:
1. Compatibility statements from the manufacturer of adjacent materials, such as PVB
interlayer, gaskets, membranes, etc. stating that the proposed sealant product is
compatible with their material and deterioration of their materials will not occur.
K. Samples for material selection:
1. Two number sample boards illustrating sealant colours for selection.
L. Approval samples:

1.08 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Design structural silicone sealant joints and develop shop drawings under direct supervision
of professional structural engineer experienced in design of glazing systems.
B. All sealants used in the construction and assembly of components shall be stored, applied
and cured strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's printed instructions. Expiry dates of
sealants shall be observed.
C. Sealant Manufacturer's Technical Representative shall visit during the glazing/ sealing works
minimum twice per application type and provide written report of the observations. Such visits
are required for both factory and site applications.
D. The Facade Sub Contractor shall ensure that sealants will not adversely affect the system or
any of the building components and have sufficient elongation capacity to accommodate the
required joint movements.
E. During construction period, each type of sealant and related primer and shall be products
provided by a single manufacturer.

1.09 MOCK-UP
A. Visual mock-up: All sealants contained within the specified visual mock-ups shall be matching
the visual appearance of the proposed sealants in terms of colour, joint widths, sealant bites,

B. Performance mock-up: All sealants contained within the specified performance mock-ups
shall be identical with the proposed and approved sealant in terms of colour, joint width,
sealant bites, surface finish, shape, etc as shown on the approved project shop drawing and
calculations.
1. Deviation from approved materials or design will result in rejection of the performance
mock-up test.
