Unsportsmanlike Conduct
Section 7. Student Athletes Ejected for Unsportsmanlike Conduct in Any Sport by
Student-Athletes

Subsections A & B remain unchanged.

Section 8. G. For substitutes leaving the bench area during an incident, the school will be
fined a minimum of $250.00. The school will be required to submit a report and video tape
if available. All schools are instructed to inform individuals taping to continue taping all
incidents. In addition, other non-monetary disciplinary action may occur, including but
not limited to probation and/or restrictive probation for the sport in which the incident

Section 98. Coaches Ejected for Unsportsmanlike Conduct by Coaches

Subsections A-G remain unchanged.

Section 9. Unsportsmanlike Conduct by Fans

A. For fans coming onto the field or floor during an incident, the school will be fined a
minimum of $250.00. In addition, other non-monetary disciplinary action may occur,
including but not limited to probation and/or restrictive probation for the entire athletic
program.

B. For fans ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct during a contest, the school will be fined
a minimum of $250.00. In addition, other non-monetary disciplinary action may occur,
including but not limited to probation and/or restrictive probation for the entire athletic
program.

IV. Approved proposed Addition to Article III, Section 5(f) (Power and Duties
of Board of Control) of the TSSAA/TMSAA Constitution
f. Except as otherwise provided, hear appeals from decisions of the Executive Director
and render final decisions in those appeals.

V. Approved proposed changes to Article III, Section 11 (Unsportsmanlike


Conduct Appeals) of the TSSAA/TMSAA Bylaws

A school may appeal the ejection of players or coaches or a penalty imposed for
unsportsmanlike conduct by fans.

A. Any appeal request regarding the ejection of players or coaches shall be submitted in
writing from the administrator of the school.
B. Ejections of players or coaches will be overturned only if it is shown that there
was a misapplication of a rule. If the appeal pertains to the ejection of players
or coaches, the written request should stateing which playing rule was misapplied.
C. The school will be charged $50 for the appeal unless the official’s decision is
overturned. It should be accompanied by $50.00. If the appeal is granted, the
$50.00 will be returned to the school.
D. The decision of the Executive Director on the appeal shall be final.

VI. Approved proposed changes to Article I, Section 10 (Rules Meetings for


Coaches) of the TSSAA/TMSAA Bylaws

Section 10. A member of the coaching staff in each sport and cheerleading or the
Athletic Director shall attend a state rules meeting in person for their sport each year and
submit their attendance voucher online or if held, or complete an the online version of the
same by the TSSAA Date of First Contest, rules meeting (if available), in the sport
involved every year by a set deadline, or the school will be fined $50.00. A school’s
Athletic Director may also satisfy this requirement on behalf of his/her school. If the
TSSAA Date of First Contest deadline is missed, The coach must complete a make-up
online rules meeting if they missed the face-to-face meeting or did not complete the
online meeting by the original deadline. If not, the head coach will not be eligible to
coach in the post-season tournament series until he/she completes the online rules
meeting. The school is still fined if the coach takes the make-up meeting after the original
deadline.

VII. Approved proposed change to Article I, Section 5 (Sanctioned Sports) of


the TSSAA Bylaws
TSSAA shall sanction the following sports: baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country,
football, golf, soccer, girls' softball, tennis, track and field, unified track and field sports,
girls' volleyball, and wrestling.  

VIII. Approved proposed adjustment to the Wrestling Sports Calendar:

Move the first date of practice and first date of competition for Wrestling and Girls
Wrestling up one week to NFHS Week 17 and NFHS Week 20, respectively,
beginning with the 2024-25 school year.
