Industry Profile

Shree Khedut Sahakari Khand Udyog Mandli Ltd. located at Baben-Bardoli is the first sugar
factory started in co-operative sector in Gujarat in the year 1955. The society is largest Cooperative
sugar factory in Asia. The society was started with 850 TCD (tons cane per day) crushing &
presently the capacity of the plant is 10000 TCD. Dr. Dayarambhai Patel was not only one of its
promoters, but also the Managing Director of the Cooperative factory ever since its inception. The
success story of Bardoli Sugar Factory is indeed a glowing tribute to this man of vision and action.

Purpose of Industrial Visit

1) To interact the students with actual industry personals.


2) To make them aware of the industrial procedures required to enter in any company.
3) To experience the working environment in industry and visualize the all the important
sections/departments of Industry.
4) Interaction of students with the peoples of all important sections/departments.
5) To prepare the students for the selection of carrier path in different sections/departments of industry.

Strength behind the visit

Honourable Provost Dr. D. R. Shah Sir has approved the industrial visit and encouraged the committee
for organizing similar kind of activities for the benefit of students.

During Industry University Interface Program at Uka Tarsadia University, many experts from the
industries have suggested that students of final year PG/UG Chemistry should visit the industries to
experience the actual working environment and the processes. Training and placement cell organized
an Industry University Interface Program at Uka Tarsadia University, at that time many experts from
the industries have suggested that students of final year should visit the industries to experience the
actual working environment and the processes. Also, suggestions came from the industrial person that
visit for the chemistry students will be helpful to face the interviews.

Dr.Amrutlal Prajapat and Dr. Dharmesh Chejara have taken continuous follow-up with Bardoli Sugar
factory, and organize this Industrial visit. All the faculty members of the Tarsadia Institute of Chemical
Science supported this tour.

Industrial Visit Report

Ground report

According the route and time plan, bus was departed from Maliba campus at 9.30 am and reached the
Bardoli Sugar Factory, at 10:00 am. Sugar factory visit was arranged successfully with the help of
administrative officer Mr. Rinkesh Patel. After completion of entry procedure at the main gate to
enter inside the plant, two appointed mechanical engineers welcome us with safety helmets and guided
us about the plant. The important role of sugar factory in the Surat region was explained to all
visitors. They gave a brief introduction for general processing of sugar manufacturing and utilization
of its by-products in other industrial applications. All the students along with the faculties were
divided in three batches for the tour of different part of sugar production units (e.g. Extraction of
Juice, Clarification, Evaporation, Centrifugation, Gradation & Packing). Mr. Sunil Sir and Mr. Patel
Sir have explained the Sugar manufacturing process with details about reactors, Effluent Treatment
Plant & Cooling Tower. Mr Varma Sir has also explained the chemistry behind the sugar
manufacturing process.

Students enjoyed watching the systematic packing procedures of sugar into plastic bags & automatic
transportation system of this packed sugar bags to trucks. Wonderful channel from packing of sugar to
its marketing was explained. All the students were gathered at the main building gate, where a group
photo with faculties was taken. Bus was departed from the Bardoli Sugar Factory & reached safely to
university campus at 12 pm.

Students Review about the Industrial visit

During the visit, we learnt about different steps involved in making sugar
from sugarcane juice as per SOP guidelines. Thankful to university for
arranging such learning industrial visits.

It is good to see the manufacturing units of sugar factory and production
engineers explained all details. Working of boilers and energy
consumption all was explained in detail.

We are happy to visit Asia’s No.1 sugar factory. We got chance to see
working of different sugar factory units and how the sugar is packed and
sealed in bags after its manufacturing.

We also visited important unit of sugar factory that was ETP-Effluent
Treatment Plant. Also the working of cooling tower was well explained.

We learnt how white sugar is refined and washed so that it has a white
appearance and no molasses flavour. It contains 99.9% sucrose. It is nice
visit.

students.
