Preserving Missoula County’s History Grants Awarded

The Board of Trustees for the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula is pleased to announce
the recipients of its annual “Preserving Missoula County’s History” grant program, 2024 grant
funds were awarded to three local non-profit organizations.

This year’s recipients are:

1. Seeley Lake Historical Society – $5,000 – Funding to construct a rear porch off the his-
toric Maloney Homestead Cabin.  The porch will be used for the interpretation of home-
stead items and activities.
2. Upper Swan Valley Historical Society – $3,100 – Funding to construct a foundation for
the historic Swan River Tavern.  The Swan River Tavern was established in the Krause
Family home in 1947 and served the residents and workers of the Swan Valley. It was
moved to the museum in 2013.
3. Grant Creek Trails Association – $1,000 – Funding to construct a new sign interpreting
the history of Jeannette Rankin along the Grant Creek Trail.  The Rankin Family were
residents of Grant Creek.

Congratulations to all the recipients.

Preserving Missoula County History grants were made possible by the voters of Missoula
County when they approved the 2-mill levy for the Historical Museum in 2002.
