PBBM KAY ABALOS: HUMANAP NG ALTERNATIBONG PANGINGISDAAN NG
ORMIN FISHERMEN

As stated in the article, President Ferdinand Marcos instructed the Department of the Interior and
Local Government (DILG) to talk to the Local Chief Executives (LCEs) about alternative fishing
grounds to allow the displaced fisher folk in Oriental Mindoro to go fishing in their waters. In a
situation briefing with various national government agency heads and local chief executives in
the town of Pola, Oriental Mindoro, President Marcos assigned DILG Benjamin "Benhur"
Abalos Jr. to set up a dialogue with the local officials of the four fishing sites within the
Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions that can be tapped by the affected fisherman. The President
also assured that the national government will continue to monitor, through the Bureau of
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), attached agencies of the Department of Agriculture
(DA), and the Department of Environment and Natural Re- sources (DENR), the situation on the
ground. President Marcos said that DENR and BFAR will continue to monitor the situation. As
soon as it becomes clear, we can go back to the old normal, going to the new normal.

DOLE, PINAIGTING ANG KAMPANYA KONTRA CHILD LABOR SA BANSA

My fellow student find news in newspaper about "DOLE pinaigting ang kampanya kontra child
labor sa Bansa" due to the growing population of our country, many young people are employed
early even if they are not yet at the right age. Because of the hardships of life, the young people
are forced to work instead of studying so the DOLE has intensified the campaign to oppose the
employment of young people who is not yet an adult. DOLE secretary Buenvenido Laguesma
said that their priority is to eliminate child labor under the Philippine Development plan 2023-
2028, the government's target is "zero child laborers".

PBBM, TINIYAK NA SAPAT ANG SUPPLY NG BIGAS SA BANSA

One of my groupmates saw a news about "President BBM tiniyak na sapat ang supply ng bigas
sa bansa" due to the continuous increase in the country's population. It is inevitable that we fall
short of rice supply which will cause its price to increase. So our president BBM ensured that our
country will be provided with enough rice. Our president communicated with the Department of
Agriculture (DA) and the National Food Authority (NFA) to focus on the price of rice in our
country because we are not lacking in it but its price continues to rise so it is better for our
country to stock enough rice to lower its price. The government said that they need to import rice
to fulfil the decrease in the price of rice.
Article 5
HELP OUR FARMERS

Based on the news the restaurant manager in Cagayan said that they were just helping farmers to
dispose their harvest which would have been left to thrown away since they have no buyers. Also
there are some tourists picking a tomatoes in a farm in Nueva Vizcaya where allows such activity
instead of letting the tomatoes rot. There is a sad situation that one of them cannot understand
why farmers cannot get their crops to the market even if the farmers plant, they harvest, they sell
and we just buy to them. Help our farmers to buy their produce not the imported ones because
locally grown produce may be safer. When they are imported and out of season, fruits like
tomatoes and bananas are often picked unripe. Also, foods from local growers may contain less
pesticides. Farmers have to pay an extra fee to become certified organic.
REFLECTION:
 What are your insights about the news?
Our insights about the news that it is inevitable that we fall short of rice supply which will
cause its price to increase. So our president BBM ensured that our country will be provided
with enough rice. Due to the growing population of our country, many young people are
employed early even if they are not yet at the right age. Because of the hardships of life, the
young people are forced to work instead of studying so the DOLE has intensified the
campaign to oppose the employment of young people who is not yet an adult.
 Explain how these social issues about populations affect our daily lives in terms of social,
political, and economic.
Rice provides 21% of global human per capita energy and 15% of per capita protein. Although
rice protein ranks high in nutritional quality among cereals, protein content is modest. Rice also
provides minerals, vitamins, and fiber, although all constituents except carbohydrates are
reduced by milling. For thousands of years, agriculture has played an important role in everyday
life. Before agriculture, hunting and gathering enabled humans to survive. It wasn’t until the
transition to the planned sowing and harvesting of crops that humans began to thrive. Humans
developed tools and practices to improve agricultural output with more efficient means of
sustaining themselves. From there, innovations that created industries led to the modern
era.Today, the importance of agriculture in everyday life can’t be minimized. Without the
agriculture sector, activities such as getting dressed for work and cleaning the home wouldn’t be
possible.

 Are you in favor in RA 10534, also known as The Responsible Parenthood and
Reproductive Health Act of 2012?
Yes, because the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012, also known
as the Reproductive Health Law officially designated as Republic Act No. 10354, is a law in
the Philippines, which guarantees universal access to methods of contraception, fertility
control, sexual education, and maternal care.
 Do you think family planning is a step to address poverty in the Philippines?
We think that family planning is a step to address poverty in the Philippines, because family
planning is crucial in the fight against poverty. It enables women to choose when and how
many children to have, as well as prevent unexpected births. A couple will typically have the
resources to properly support their children if they have the ability to control the size of their
family.
 Give situations or programs from your local government that helps in resolving issues
related to population.
In helping our farmers, the government may have succeeded in distributing lands to farmers
through Agrarian Reform, but it failed to help farmers sustain the area they were given. “One
of the serious problems besetting our farmers and our fisher folk is the lack of financing, lack
of credit. Why? Because it is costly to lend to small farmers. The cost of lending is very
high.” The bill also seeks to set up an agricultural, fisheries, and rural financing system to
improve the welfare, competitiveness, income, and productivity of rural community
beneficiaries, particularly farmers, fisher folk, and agrarian reform beneficiaries. “The bill
seeks to promote inclusive growth and improve the quality of life in the countryside. It will
foster continuity and expansion of responsive financial and support services to all farmers
and fisher folk,” As the Filipino adage goes, “magtanim ay ‘di biro” (farming is not a joke).
It’s not only physically difficult but nowadays financially as well. That is why we need to
support Filipino farmworkers in any way we can.
 If given a chance to create a bill that concerns population, what will it be and why?
Equality Act of 2023, because this act helps people from being discriminated based on their
sexual orientation and gender identity. This bill will either make people accept or pay for
making the never-ending inequality spread even more.
