4 HORIZONTAL SURVEY CONTROL

Contractor will conduct horizontal survey control for azimuth and distances on setting out and as-built survey
in compliance with the standard practice by the survey industry, U.A.E. Department and Owner requirement.
Contractor will utilized all survey control points as indicated in the AFC drawings as reference or datum to

embark on the traversing work, setting out of pipeline alignment, ROW, crossings and as-built survey.
Contractor will base the datum, on minimum, to three (3) approved known survey marks shown as IP’s and
RM’s in the AFC drawings or referenced to any survey marks approved by Owner. Traverse loop shall be
surveyed from whole to part and the traverse shall run not to exceed every 25 stations or at every five (5) km
intervals for datum closed. Line of sight from one survey station to another for every observation shall not
exceed 300m apart; Contractor will establish an intermediate line for any line of observation exceeding
300m.Observation for bearings shall be carried out by reading both faces of the EDM on Face Left (FL) and
Face Right (FR) and final reading taken as the mean of the two (2) readings. Distances shall be measured
twice at each pointing and the mean from the two readings shall be recorded as final distance. The survey
shall be categorized as third order with linear misclosure of 1:5000.

5 VERIFICATION ON EXISTING SURVEY MONUMENTS

Before commencement on any work such as site clearing and setting out, Contractor will locate and verify
the correctness of all established marks as shown in the AFC drawings. Contractor will confirm in writing on
the status of all those marks and its acceptance in terms of its status in positions and elevations, and submit
the status report to Owner within seven days (7) after the completion of the verification works. Marks found
missing or damaged during verification survey shall be reestablished immediately by Contractor. The marks
shall be properly protected and barricaded with hardwood peg. The pegs shall have a dimension of 50 mm ×
50 mm and 1.0m long with 300mm of the pegs protruded above ground. Contractor will make sure there is
enough room to set the instrument on the station. For easy identification the pegs shall be painted in a ring
form in red and white paint. The survey marks and pegs shall be maintained throughout the duration of the
project.

6 ADDITIONAL / RELOCATION OF EXISTING SURVEY MONUMENTS

6.1 At certain locations, Contractor will relocate existing or establish new survey control points to facilitate
the setting out of the pipeline alignment and as-built survey for the pipeline route and facilities.
6.2 New control points shall be established on firm ground and outside construction activity area. Contractor
will submit the complete list of new and additional survey controls points with location sketch after the
completion of survey works for Owner approval.
6.3 New monuments at facilities locations shall be established using 25 mm diameter GI capped with
concrete and marked with a nail driven 600 mm into firm soil and surrounded by concrete. The top of the
iron pipe shall be flush with the concrete surface.
6.4 The exact position of the survey monument shall be marked by a stud / nail set in concrete at the centre
of the pipe complete with identification / numbering clearly inscribe on the concrete surface.
6.5 For additional control points and new IP’s, it is adequate for Contractor to mark with a 25 mm diameter

GI pipes capped with concrete and marked with a nail driven 600 mm into the ground and the top of the
GI flush with the concrete surface.
6.6 The established survey marks shall be well protected with 50 mm × 50 mm hardwood pegs painted in
red and white and staked 300 mm above ground.

7 FIELD BOOKS

Survey data shall be recorded in the proper survey field books for each and every survey activities such as
traverses, details, station, crossings, as-built and leveling. Final survey data shall be tabulated in coordinates
and the units for coordinates and levels shall be in meter. Survey data, site sketch and remarks shall be neat
and clearly recorded with no overwrite or erasures. Mistakes in field data record shall be cancelled
accordingly and the correct data is to be reregistered. All survey observation data, computations and site
sketches shall be enclosed together with the field book. Survey field books shall be uniquely indexed and
labeled and shall be submitted to Owner as part of final documentation. Contractor will generate all digital
field data that are recorded electronically into hard copy together with all the computations and survey
adjustment in the format used in conventional survey field book. The execution of the survey works,
recording of survey data and accuracy shall comply with international survey standard practice and Owner
requirements.

8 ROUTE CHANGES

Contractor will execute the setting out of the survey activities according to the AFC drawing. Where detail
analysis at site by Contractor determines that the alignment is impractical or changes to the route can
contribute significant savings to Owner, Contractor will submit in writing detail of the proposed route
realignment to Owner for approval before any realignment is undertaken by Contractor.

9 LEVELS

Heights on vertical control shall be transferred using the automatic level instrument, with datum-adopted
minimum on any two (2) survey marks on the AFC drawings. Levels shall be run either in loop or on single
line with distance per run not to exceed 4 km before closing back to the reference datum. The level runs shall
adopt the shortest possible route and within closed vicinity of the proposed pipeline ROW. Observation per
station shall be read twice with optimum observation length of sight not to exceed 50m between the
instrument to the back and forward staff. Contractor will make a closed leveling at the end of each day to any
approved survey reference. Misclosed tolerance for levels shall be within ±0.02√k, whereby k is the distance
in km. If Contractor intends to use a different method of transferring heights other than the conventional
method referred above, a detail method of statement shall be submitted for Owner approval.

10 CENTERLINE ALIGNMENT

Contractor will set out the centerline alignment based on AFC drawings and maintain the location of the
trench line within the ROW. Contractor will come up with a comprehensive proposal with sketch for Owner
approval before any deviation to the pipeline alignment or its facilities is to be carried out. Contractor will
stake the trench line prior to site clearing and reestablish them after clearing, grading and topsoil stripping.
The stakes shall be in position until trench is excavated. Contractor will locate and stake the trench centerline
at intervals of 20 m and at a much closer interval along the curve length. Contractor will identify and stake as
minimum at the following locations:
♦ Centerline of trench completes with running chainages;
♦ Intersection points and deflection angles;
♦ Start and end of curve, tangent to curve (TC) and curve to tangent(CT);
♦ Start and end points of pipeline crossings.

♦ Metering station.

11 PIPELINE, VALVE STATION APPURTENANCES

Contractor will verify all survey marks and existing ground levels at facilities locations as shown in the AFC
drawings before site clearing, and shall submit a complete status report to Owner. Contractor will propose in
advance, details on desired locations for additional reference points or relocation of existing marks
necessary for control and installation of all pipeline and appurtenances for Owner approval. Contractor will
set grid lines at every 10 m or at closer intervals after site clearing and grading within the facility boundary.
The setting out of facilities appurtenances shall be in accordance with construction specifications and AFC
drawings. Contractor will then run the survey on existing grounds along the grid line before proceeding with
the excavation and fill activities at worksite. Contractor will observe the final excavated design level after total
excavation and subsequently record layer-by-layer levels of backfilling materials up to the final design level.
