Reflection (1500 words)
For this reflection, you are required to discuss the following points in detail.
▪ Discuss challenges/opportunities faced during the internship period.
▪ Identifying strengths/weaknesses in order to improve yourself.
▪ Discuss your future plan.

▪ DISCUSS CHALLENGES/OPPORTUNITIES FACED DURING THE INTERNSHIP

PERIOD.
On the first week of working the internship in Motorola Solutions Sdn Bhd, the tasks
from the previous intern were transitioned to me. I had to learn an appropriate amount of
how Motorola works in their own system and way in a week as the task given to me would
be fully handed and taken responsibility under me. As for technical skills, I had to brush
up as it involved skills such as Vlookup and comparisons of figure variances. Despite the
learnings I had to quickly pick up on, aside from recording the meeting of transition, I had
to take down notes on each report I had to retrieve and send out. I had a difficult time
figuring out the days of tasks and reports needed to be done as Motorola Solutions Sdn
Bhd specifically have the dates of when these reports should be retrieved and sent out.
The reports included were Mansum Revenue reports, Mansum Releases reports, Project
Summary Reports of 24 country codes, Direct COF reports inclusive of Direct Billings,
Direct Releases, Direct Inventories and Direct COGS, Open and Closed Internal
Summary Orders and Sub Order Summary reports of Hong Kong and Macau, India and
Singapore, Global Releases reports and GL Tie Up file for multiple countries under the
Entity Owner team.
The first month of being an intern, I was facing a number of challenges as I was still
learning to adapt to the Motorola system. I had to work late nights as I had troubles on
balancing the Mansum Revenue reports which also included GL Journals. However, my
supervisor, Ms. Maria helped me throughout the whole incident. Every week, there would
be an update on the tabs of these reports retrieved, which would ultimately mean I had to
keep updating these files. On every closing date for Motorola’s closing of accounts, the
server would be on delay, which means I have to wait for these raw data to be refreshed.

The challenges I faced were the insufficient time to send out these reports. Hence, I had
to work on late nights as these reports are to be sent out as soon as possible to the
Senior colleagues. As new information regarding my tasks are always updating weekly,
the notes I had on my first week were not as reliable anymore, I had to record meetings
between my colleagues and I and refer to these recorded meetings if I had an issue. As I
keep referring, I am losing and delaying my time. At these times, I wished that things
would be so much easier if we were all doing the internship physically instead of virtually.
The first month of my internship was very hectic as I was still learning and adapting to
how my colleagues preferred their work to be done. However, my colleagues were kind
enough to support me throughout my intern journey to teach me and guide me to prepare
my reports thoroughly and promptly.
I took these challenges as an opportunity to learn and be better. As months passed
by, I managed to get my reports sent out on time and on days, I managed to finish it in a
couple of hours. However, it is normal for these raw data to be delayed on every closing
date as the server might be down or jammed by the amount of people entering. This is
where I take my opportunity to multi-task and prepare other reports to make my tasks
easier and faster. I would double-check my reports before sending it out to my Senior
colleagues to make sure they do not have troubles while doing their own reports or
calculations. These challenges have helped me improved in many ways and my skills.
With the improvements I have made after a month of interning, my reports have started to
look better, and I have become more efficient than my first week of interning. I have learnt
to be more outspoken to the IT Service desk in the case of any IT help needed during the
retrieving of the data.

▪ IDENTIFYING STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES IN ORDER TO IMPROVE
YOURSELF.
The strengths I had during the internship period was the right amount of self-
confidence I had. After the first month of working, I gained a lot of confidence in my
reports, and I was not afraid of asking questions on areas that I was not sure myself. My
communication skills and professional manner in speaking helped me understand and
respond to my colleagues allowing me to deliver an engaging and effective message. The
positivity I had during my internship journey has shown my on-site Supervisor that I am
willing to work hard and learn as much as I can, proving that I am maintaining a
progressive mindset. The adaptability to learn new tasks and learn different processes
shows how I can handle in different challenges in a fast-paced working environment. As
an intern, I have good set of skills which also includes teamwork, a priority set in Motorola
Sdn Bhd. I work with professionals, senior colleagues as well as the other interns. I have
helped other interns as well as assisted my senior colleagues on reports that were
needed to be retrieved urgently. I have also a good interpersonal skill which includes
listening and showing respect to the upper position level of employees in Motorola Sdn
Bhd. I am more accepting to feedbacks. Hence, turning these feedbacks to efforts to
improve upon the areas that are needed to be focused on. My outspoken skills have
helped me got through the days of my interning as if an issue rises, I am not afraid to ask
any questions to my supervisor or my team. Hence, they would always help me if I had
any problems in my reports.
The weaknesses I had during my internship were my technical skills that included
Microsoft Excel which I hope to be improved in the present and future. My tasks involved
analyzing data and the use of VLOOKUP, IFERROR as well as Pivot Tables. I hope to
take on a virtual course or a professional course on Microsoft Excel and brush up on my
technical skills. Although I am able to adapt quickly, it took rather some time for me to
learn how these reports were prepared and retrieved as I struggle with last minute
changes by the upper-level employees in my department. As new information were
flowing in throughout every week, I had some misunderstandings which have led to re-

doing these reports multiple times. I hope to be a fast learner in a good way in terms of
helping my colleagues have a better understanding of my reports efficiently in the future. I
have learnt to double check with my colleagues before sending out these reports. Besides
that, criticism would also be one of my weaknesses. I work extremely hard as an intern
and if something is not done good enough, criticisms would be made, and I struggle with it
most of the times. I learn how to take these criticisms non-personally but instead, take
these criticisms as feedback or a guidance to help me work efficiently to avoid any errors
in my reports.

▪ DISCUSS YOUR FUTURE PLAN.
I have gained so much knowledge and insights while interning in Motorola solutions
Sdn Bhd. I enjoyed working in this company. Therefore, my future plan is to continue
working in the finance department of Motorola Solutions Sdn Bhd. I hope to be absorbed
into the company as I have enjoyed my internship program along the four months. Aside
from being happy in the company, I have learnt and gained so much of knowledge and
support from my colleagues. The amazing teams I have worked with have trusted me
enough with the reports handed over to them. I also wish to be recognized as the intern
who have worked hard to get the recognition. I understand that working in a multi-national
company, a fast-growing company, brings in many tough challenges upon me. However,
with the positive mindset I have, I believe I that can change these challenges into
opportunities for me to gain experience and upgrade my soft skills and technical skills.
While interning, I was placed under the Finance team as well as the Entity Owner team.
The Entity Owner team includes many other employees who are the owners of the main
files of countries. As I had tasks under the Entity Owner team, I have learnt that these GL
Tie Up files are important for each country. I hope to be absorbed under the Entity Owner
team as there could be a relocation to other countries, which would be a fun experience to
learn the culture of a different country. However, I do not mind if there is no placement for
me in Motorola solutions Sdn Bhd, I would still like to explore a new working environment
as I believe that the willingness to learn helps me to where I want to be.
