Speech-language pathologists (SLPs): This professional work


to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social
communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing
disorders in children and adults.

Education Requirements
Applicants for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-
Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) must earn a graduate degree,
successfully complete the required clinical experiences, and pass a
national examination. In some areas, such as college teaching,
research, and private practice, a PhD is desirable.
To earn the CCC-SLP, individuals must complete graduate course
work and a clinical practicum at a college or university whose
program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in
Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA). This assures
graduates that their academic and clinical experience meets

2. Psychologist (PSYs): are a mental health professional who


uses psychological evaluations and talk therapy to help people
learn to better cope with life and relationship issues and mental
health conditions.
Education Requirements
The California Board of Psychology requires you to take two exams
to become licensed. These tests are the Examination for
Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP), which is required in
every state, and the California Psychology Law and Ethics
Examination (CPLEE), which is specific to California. Before getting
your license, you will have to show proof of coursework in human
sexuality; alcohol/chemical dependency detection and treatment;
child abuse assessment; spousal or partner abuse assessment;
aging and long-term care training; and suicide risk assessment and
intervention.
3. School Nurse (SN): They provide students with basic health
services throughout the school day. School nurses also manage
students who have chronic health conditions and students with
disabilities. This includes giving them medication as needed and
working with parents and teachers to create and enforce care
plans.

Educational Requirement
Becoming a school nurse typically requires a BSN; however, some
employers may permit applicants to hold an ADN. Therefore, the
most common educational path consists of earning a BSN, gaining
clinical experience, and becoming certified.

4. Licenced Vocational Nurse (LVN): An entry-level health care


provider who is responsible for rendering basic nursing care. A
vocational nurse practices under the direction of a physician or
registered nurse.
Educational Requirement:
After completing high school (or getting your GED diploma), a future
vocational nurse takes a two-year course or training program and
then takes an exam (the NCLEX) to become licensed before getting
a job
