Ceilings
● A ceiling refers to the overhead surface or uppermost
part of a room or space that encloses and defines its
boundaries. It is commonly constructed as a horizontal
plane attached to the walls or the structural framework
of a building.
● A false ceiling is a secondary ceiling installed below the
main structural ceiling, creating a gap between the two
surfaces. It is typically used to enhance aesthetic appeal,
conceal wiring and pipes, improve acoustics, or provide
insulation in a space.
● There are a variety of materials used for making ceilings.

Gypsum Ceiling
● Gypsum boards also referred to as plasterboards, are
hydrated calcium sulphate boards made in factories
and used for false ceilings.
● These boards, which come in 9, 12, and 15 mm
thicknesses, are often produced in sizes of 4 x 6 feet, 4
x 8 feet, and 4 x 10 feet.
● They are simple to install; simply cut to the correct
dimensions, and then fitted to a metal framework
hanging from the ceiling.

Plaster of Paris
Plaster of paris is also known as the
Gypsum plaster as it is made of
gypsum. It is commonly used to make
the false ceiling, as a sculpting
material and in plasters used in the
treatment of fractured bones.

Price range : 36 rs/sqft - 110 rs/sqft


Wooden Ceiling
A wooden ceiling refers to a ceiling
structure or surface that is predominantly
made of wood materials.
It involves the use of wooden panels,
beams, or planks to create a decorative and
functional overhead covering in interior
spaces.
Wooden ceiling are commonly used in
traditional or rustic architecture designs.

Price range : 120 rs/sqft - 1500 rs/sqft


Metal ceiling
● A metal ceiling refers to a ceiling structure or
surface that is primarily composed of metal
materials.
● Metal ceilings provide durability, as they are
resistant to fire, moisture, and damage from
pests.
● They can be customized in various finishes,
including polished, brushed, or powder-coated,
to achieve different looks and enhance the
overall design of a space.
● Metal ceilings also offer practical benefits, such
as easy installation, maintenance, and excellent
acoustical properties when combined with
sound-absorbing materials.

Price range : 50 rs/sqft - 1500 rs/sqft


Glass ceiling
● One of the type of false ceiling used
in construction are of glass. It is a
non-crystalline material with the
property of brittle and transparent.
But this can be altered to make it
non brittle and non-transparent
using some admixtures.
Price Range : Rs 350 to 600/sqft
● As glass is a good insulator of heat, it can
be used for false ceiling. This type of false
ceiling improves aesthetical appearance of
the building.
● Due to the transparent effect of the glass
false ceiling, it is used to enhance the
brightness of showrooms, restaurants,
jewelry shops etc. It can be used to
enhance the living room of the house
.
● Although the transparency of a glass false
ceiling can be reduced by painting it with
the matching colour of the interior. but due
to lack of durability glass false ceiling is
very rarely in use.
PVC Ceiling

● Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) being


a plastic, it is termite resistant,
damp proof and fire resistant.
This type of false ceiling is
prefered to install in places like
bathrooms, garages, kitchens,
basements etc.
● PVC False Ceiling is suitable for decorating the ceiling of a
rented office or house as it can be easily removed and
reinstalled.

● PVC sheets are Available in various colors and patterns and it's
false ceiling is resistant to ultraviolet rays of the sun. Due to
which there is no problem of discoloration or cracking due to
sunlight. It is attached to the main ceiling with the help of screws
after framing of iron or steel.

Fibre ceiling
● Fiber false ceilings are known for
their ability to act as soundproof as
well as insulators against hot
temperatures. This type of false
ceiling is less prefered for homes
due to lack of attractive variety and
pattern.
● The fiber false ceiling is made of natural and synthetic
materials such as bitumen, tar, vegetable fibers, wood
and stone are combined to make fiber ceilings.

● Due to its sound and fire resistant property, it is


widely used in ceilings of commercial buildings, in
high noise locations such as shopping malls,
showrooms and offices etc.

Fabric Ceiling
● Fabric, leather, leatherette or the
like can be used to create soft
false ceilings. If one is looking
for merely ornamental false
ceilings, the fabric can be used
for the same. The type, pattern
and colour of fabric chosen will
contribute to setting the
ambiance of the space. The
advantage of fabric is that it can
take any desired form.
● The material should not be used solely but in combination
with other materials. These are difficult to maintain as they
attract dust and mites, therefore cannot be thought of as
long-term solutions for false ceilings.

● However, if they are framed or empanelled, these can


serve a little longer as a false ceiling. In addition, they can
also serve as art pieces.

● These can be used in spaces such as lobbies, lounges,


bedrooms, living rooms, passageways, etc.
