Word-Formation in English.

The title of the research is {Word-Formation in English}. The aims of this study is
to focus on how the process of word-formation in English is formed. The process
of word-formation, i.e. derivation, compounding, coinage.
The research consists of four sections:

Section one is an introduction which talks about (The problem, procedure, scope,
aim, value of the study and definitions of some terms).

Section two is literature review that introduce Word-Formation with deep

information. Also shows that how Word-formation is important to language.
Furthermore, it explains that how words are formed in sentence and create a
meaningful unit.

Section three it contains main topics in the research which is about

( Compounding, Affixes and Derivational and Inflectional. These three topics are
explained in long way information with examples. Then comparing some of them
in order to be clear and understandable.

Section four as the final part of the research is that mentioned conclusion that
followed by the references list.
There are four main kinds of word formation: prefixes, suffixes, conversion and
compounds.

1: Prefixes: A prefix is an affix which is placed before the stem of a word. Adding
it to the beginning of one word changes it into another word. For example, when
the prefix un- is added to the word happy, it creates the word unhappy.

2: suffixes: In linguistics, a suffix is an affix which is placed after the stem of a

word. Common examples are case endings, which indicate the grammatical case of
nouns, adjectives, and verb endings, which form the conjugation of verbs.

3: conversion: a process which derives words without changing the phonological

shape of the base.

4: compounds: Compounding derives a new word by joining two morphemes that

would each usually be free morphemes.

To conclude, Word-formation is based on four main types: Compounding, suffixes,

conversion, prefixes. Linguistics of any language take care about these 4 types
because with out them you can’t create a meaningful part. Also determine the
problems when you study the word-formation and how you deal with them.
