☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

x Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an
outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
The students will be reading chapter books in three separate groups in the class over the course of
three weeks. They will read the books on their own, although collaborate and share ideas about
the books in their designated groups. The students will be made aware to make special note of the
main idea of the story and the themes present. Once the reading time has ended, the students will
be introduced to the technology tool being used, Spotify for podcasters. The teacher will show the
students how to use the tool and they will be expected to create a three minute podcast about the
story revealing the main idea and themes present within the story. The students will be able to
share their podcasts with their instructor and peers to teach them about the book they read.
Managing student learning:
The students will be very active learners with the use of this technology tool. It allows them the
creativity to share their ideas in a new and different way then they are used to. By having the abil-
ity to speak it may make it easier for students that enjoy this mode of learning to share their ideas
with more ease. It allows the students to feel empowered of their learning as they are able to eas-
ily share their podcasts with the class and their instructor.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This activity provides an engaging and new way for students to share their knowledge and informa-
tion with their peers in class and with their teacher. Rather than having to write a paper or report on
the book, it allows the children a creative outlet for them to share their knowledge of the story they
just read. This activity will help keep the children engaged in their learning and the knowledge of how
to use a new helpful technology tool. By having something quick and easy to share the students can
bring this audio home for their parents to listen to, to continue learning into the home.

I like that this activity will be different with every student. They will be given the freedom to share
their knowledge they way they see best fit for them. They can add audio and music, transitions,
and speak about their book how they choose. The creative aspect is what I am most excited for, for
this particular lesson. It allows the students freedom to create their own audio in the form of a
