Saving the Tasmanian Devil - A Call to Action

Honourable Jason Jacobi,

I write to express deep concern regarding the imminent extinction of the Tasmanian Devil, a
treasured marsupial species found exclusively on Tasmania. The Tasmanian Devil's
population has drastically declined due to Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), a contagious
cancer causing fatal facial tumours. Without swift intervention, this remarkable creature
could vanish within two decades. I urge you to consider the following proposals to safeguard
the Tasmanian Devil:

Disease Management and Research:

 Increase funding for research on DFTD's causes and transmission mechanisms.

 Establish specialized treatment facilities to develop effective therapies and potential
vaccines.
 Foster collaboration with national and international scientific communities to
combat the disease collectively.

Conservation and Habitat Protection:

 Expand and strengthen protected areas and wildlife corridors to preserve the Devil's
habitat.
 Implement measures to prevent the introduction of invasive species.
 Conduct rewilding programs to reintroduce Devils to disease-reduced regions,
closely monitoring their progress.

Public Awareness and Education:

 Launch comprehensive campaigns to educate communities, tourists, and industries

on the significance of conserving the Devil.
 Promote responsible waste management and reduce the use of flame retardants,
potentially linked to DFTD.
 Integrate Devil conservation into educational curricula through partnerships with
schools and universities.

International Collaboration:

 Establish partnerships with global organizations, wildlife experts, and researchers to

exchange knowledge.
 Seek international support and funding for conservation initiatives, emphasizing the
global importance of saving the Devil.

I urgently request your attention to this matter and the allocation of resources necessary for
immediate action. By implementing these measures promptly, we can reverse the
Tasmanian Devil's decline and secure its survival for generations to come.
Thank you for your dedication to environmental preservation and your commitment to
protecting this iconic species.

Sincerely, Sweekar Pokhrel
