Routine
A spectator is asked to think of a name or number
or draw a simple picture on a Rosiness card, and
then to fold the card.
The folded business card. is sealed between two
credit or gift cards, secured with criss-crossed
rubber bands, and'then placed aside.
Under seemingly impossible conditions, the
performer reveals what was in the spectator’s
mind.Materials Pic 1
Business cards
Two plastic cards: gift, credit, store, etc.
‘Two #19 rubber bands
Tools Pic 2
One small metal ruler
Pencil
Box-cutter or X-Acto knife, with new blade
Emery board
Double sided Scotch tape
Preparation
Place the two gift cards back side up over
your working area and one business card‘\°
nearby. Pic 3
Fold the business card so that the two short
edges align, then place the folded card on top
of one of the plastic cards. Pics 4-5Using a pencil, trace a line across the gift card. You'll [ius
notice that the upper part of the plastic card is a little
larger than the lower part. This plastic card will be
used later as a gimmick. Pics 5-6
Place the ruler over the marked line of the gift card.
Using the box-cutter or X-Acto knife, score across the
gift card, making sure not to cut all the way through the
plastic layer. The uncut layer of the plastic card will act
as a natural hinge. Pic 7
Note: You can use a piece of double-side tape under the
ruler before scoring so the card doesn’t slide during”
scoring
Carefully bend the upper part of the gift card a
couple of times toward the card's front printed logo
‘side and then straighten the gift card back to the
original form. This plastic card becomes the
gimmick used for this effect. Pics 8-9
On the back side and upper part of the
gimmick plastic card, stick a piece of
double sided tape. Do the same with the
regular plastic card. Cut any tape
remnants. Pic 10
Grek at cara
CeSand down the opposite top two corners with the
Emery file (on the edge with the double-sided tape),
taking off about 1/16” or 1 mm. Keep the corners
round while sanding, Pic 11
Note: It is a good idea to prepare as described above
more than one gimmick plastic card for practice.
Get Ready
Pre-fold one business card so the two short edges
align, then neatly unfold the card. Pics 12-13

tip. Se
Place the gimmick gift card over the regular gift
card, with the back facing up. Place the pre-folded
business card on top. Hang the two #19 rubber
bands over your left pinky finger. Pic 14
Routine
Lift the three cards with your right fingers and
casually show them on both sides. Then place
them back in the same order in your left hand.
Pic 14
Give the business card to the spectator along
with a pen. Ask them to make a simple drawing
on the blank back side of the business card, to
fold the card, and then to give it back to you.Take the spectator’s folded business card between your right
fingers and place it so that the business card's short edges align
over the face-up gimmick gift card’s upper end on top of the
double-sided tape. Hold the folded business card down with
your left thumb so the business card doesn’t unfold prematurely.
Pic 15.
With your right fingers, grab the lower edge of the bottom
card (front side up), slide it out and place it on top of the
business card, casually pressing with your left thumb:the
upper ends of the sandwiched cards. This thumb pfessure
will ensure that the top regular gift card and the bottom
gimmick gift card stick to the business card folded ends.
Pics 16-17
With your right fingers, grab one of the rubber bands and
double loop it horizontally around the middle of the pack.
Next with your right fingers, grab the other rubber band and
place a single loop vertically in the middie of the
sandwiched cards. Pic 18Holding the rubber-banded cards in your left palm, grab
the stack’s upper edge with your right thumb on top of
the regular gift card and your right index, middle and ring
fingers under the gimmick gift card's lower edge. Lift and
turn the card stack, showing it on both sides. Pics 19-20
Place the stack again in your left palm but this time with
the regular gift card on top. The folded business card's
short edges are at the lower end, sandwiched between
the two plastic cards. Pics 20-21
Get-Ready Position
The left long side of the card stack is covered by y‘
thumb and thumb pad. The stack’s right side is
by your left fingers. Pic 21
The Move
Place your right thumb at the gimmi d's lower edge
and your index, middle and ring finggPs over the top of the
card's lower edge. Pic 22
<
Next with the tip of your right thumb, grab the lower left
gimmick card corner and lift the lower part of the gimmick
card all the way up till the business card totally unfolds.
Pics 22-25As mentioned above, grabbing the gimmick gift card’s lower left
corner and dragging it up with your right thumb automatically unfolds
and flattens the business card behind the regular plastic card. The
vertical rubber band loop keeps the unfolded business card against
the back of the plastic cards. Pic 25
Note: If you have difficulty grabbing the gimmick card’s lower left comer
with the tip of your right thumb, sand the regular gift card's two corners a
little more.
Next, bring your empty left hand down. The
banded plastic cards with the regular plastic
card in front is now held in your right hand and;
is facing the audience.Your right thumb is <@)
behind the business card’s upper edge ai
your index, middle and pinky fingers ar
top front of the regular plastic card. Ries 26-27Without pausing, bring your
right hand with the card stack
held as mentioned above to
your left breast pocket. Drop
the card stack inside the
pocket but while dropping it,
peek at the spectator’s
drawing, number or name,
which is written on the
unfolded business card. Pics
28-29
The illusion during the move
is that you just showed the
rubber-banded stack on both
sides and then put it away in.”
your pocket. gNote:
This routine is designed to be
performed standing up, all the steps
are done under chest level, in a fluid
continuous movement while talking
and looking in the spectator’s eyes.
Peel off and replace the double-sided
Scotch tape so that it adheres
securely to the spectator’s folded
business card.
The peek is motivated and preferably
done when you drop the banded card
stack into your left breast pocket; at
this time you can take a good look at
the spectator's info.
To extend the longevity of the §
gimmick's hinge, stick clear heavyS”
duty packing tape on the back ofthe
gimmick’s plastic card, coverin
almost all the card’s back surface.
The tape is unnoticeable even from a
short distance. Pic 29
Change the doubled-sided tape often
from the top of the plastic cards.More eBooks by Mark Stone
