BLACK SCREEN, AUBREY SPEAKS

AUBREY
“But the worst of imagining things, is
that the time comes when you have to
stop. And that hurts.”

INT. MOVING CAR INSIDE PARKING GARAGE

We see a couple together.

ANTONIO
“who said that?”
(Antonio looks at his passenger
while driving)
“You didn’t write that did you?”

AUBREY
(she laughs) “no I wish! It’s from
Anne Of Green Gables.”

ANTONIO
“Is that a movie?”

AUBREY
(Her eyes widen) “it’s a book! you’ve
never read it?”

ANTONIO
“No. (He pauses, then chuckles) i’m
not really a book person.”

AUBREY
(She smiles at him) “I’ll forgive you,
I guess. So (she pauses then she turns
her body towards him) are you gonna
tell me where you’re taking me?”

ANTONIO
“Don’t worry about it.” (He smiles and
looks away from her) “but did you have
fun tonight? I‘ve really enjoyed
hanging out with you…”

AUBREY
“Yeah I did. I really liked the prime
rib. I Actually don’t think I’ve been
to a restaurant like that before.”

ANTONIO
“Yeah neither have I. I didn’t know
they just carved the meat right there
at the table For you.”

AUBREY
“i know right, that was very
different! (Pause, she exhales) oh my
god, i’m so full.“

ANTONIO
“How?! I know damn well you didn’t eat
everything.”

AUBREY
“Ha! Yes I know, but haven’t you seen
by now that I almost never finish all
my food at once?” (She holds up her to
go box) “don’t worry, I’ll be heating
this up later.”

ANTONIO
(he shakes his head, then smiles)
“unbelievable.”
(From inside the car we see the
view of the outside as the car
approaches the top of the parking
garage.)

AUBREY
“Wow! This is beautiful.”

(They get to the top and Antonio

decides to park the car)

ANTONIO
”come on, let’s go!” (He exits the
car, Aubrey laughs and follows.)

EXT. SUNSET, ROOF OF PARKING GARAGE

(we see a view of the two as they walk

away from the car and towards the edge
of the roof of the parking garage)

AUBREY
“wow, I can’t believe I’ve never seen
this view.” (they both pause and take
in the beauty of the sunset. She turns
to him) “Tony, how did you find this
place?”

ANTONIO
(he doesn’t answer right away) “i just
uh, (he looks down at his feet for a
second and pauses) well I guess my
brother and I found it one day, when I
was a kid.”

AUBREY
“hmm, that’s cool. “
(She smiles. they walk to the edge
and look over the side. We see a
view of the city and the road
below them.)

ANTONIO
“so I take it no one’s ever taken you
here before.” (they lean over the side
and he glances at her.)

AUBREY
“Nope, definitely not!”

ANTONIO
“Should we take a picture?”

AUBREY
“umm, yeah! (she looks around) Where
should I set my phone up?”

ANTONIO
“Uhh, (he looks around too) Hold on.”
(He walks back to the car and
backs it up towards where shes
standing. He gets back out of the
car, walks over to her and gives
her a look that says, how about
this?)

AUBREY
“ahh, Good idea!” (She walks over to
the back of the car and sets her phone
up on the bumper. she looks at the
phone, checking to see if the picture
looks good) “it’s perfect!”

ANTONIO
“You should set a timer!”

AUBREY
“Yeah” (she looks at the timer
options, 3 seconds and 10 seconds)
“you think 3 seconds is long enough?”

ANTONIO
“uhh, yeah. should be.”

AUBREY
“Kay!” (She taps the button to take a
picture and runs back over to him)

ANTONIO
“hurry! it’s gonna take it!”

(they laugh together and are unable to

pose properly in time for the photo.
Aubrey runs back to pick up her phone)

AUBREY
“Okay I guess 3 seconds is not long
enough, I’m changing it to 10.”

(She sets the timer on her phone)

ANTONIO
“Hurry come on!”

AUBREY
“I am!! it’s okay, We have more time
now!

(They laugh together and pose

better than the last photo.)

THEIR LAUGHING CONTINUES AND OVERLAYS INTO THE NEXT SCENE,

THEY ARE LEANING OVER THE LEDGE, NOT TALKING, JUST STARING

OUT INTO THE SKY. THE SUN HAS SET NOW. THEIR LAUGHTER FADES
INTO THEIR NEXT CONVERSATION.

ANTONIO
“Aubrey…“

AUBREY
(she looks at him) ”hm?”

ANTONIO
“what do you think you’re most afraid
of?”

(Aubrey gives Antonio a look of

unsureness)

AUBREY
“Well, (she scoffs) I- I don’t know.
What about you?”

ANTONIO
“No, no, I asked you! what, you don’t
wanna tell me?”

AUBREY
“No its not that, i just, can’t think
of what it is.”

ANTONIO
“oh…is it…dying?”

AUBREY
“No, I don’t so. I think maybe…it’s my
parents dying.”

ANTONIO
“But aubrey, you know that’s gonna
happen… parents don’t live forever.”

AUBREY
“I know I know, but I try not to think
about it if I don’t have to. sooo,
what scares you the most, Tony?”

ANTONIO
(Pause) “You scare me.” (he smiles at
her with these doe eyes)

AUBREY
(she laughs and lightly smacks his
arm) “Stop it! I’m being serious!”

ANTONIO
(He laughs) “I don’t know! Um, If I
had to say, it’d Probably be…not
having any money.”

AUBREY
“what?! (She laughs) I said I was
serious! That’s really your biggest
fear?”

ANTONIO
“yeah, I’m being for real. I’m
probably scared of being broke more
than anything.”

AUBREY
“yeah, I mean, I guess that would be
scary.”

FADE IN TO SEE THE COUPLE RIDING ON RENTAL SCOOTERS IN

DOWNTOWN TAMPA. THEY RIDE THROUGH NEIGHBORHOODS AND ALONG THE
WATER-SIDE AS WE CONTINUE TO HEAR THEIR CONVERSATION ON THE
TOP OF THE PARKING GARAGE.

AUBREY
“Tony, Sometimes It feels like
everything I do is for everyone else.”

ANTONIO
(pause) “So, you feel like you don’t
really do anything for yourself?”

AUBREY
“I mean, I do, but I feel like, my
decision making is always centered
around what everyone else wants. and,
What I want is always secondary.”

ANTONIO
”hm. Well thats kinda how I was, like
5 years ago. but I realized that the
only person you have is yourself.”

AUBREY
“Yeah? And What made you realize
that?”

ANTONIO
”um, a while after, my brother, uh,
passed away.”

FADE FROM COUPLE RIDING SCOOTERS BACK TO THEM TALKING ON THE

ROOFTOP.

AUBREY
“your brother? (Pause) The one you
told me about?”

ANTONIO
“Yeah…he uh, he killed himself, when I
was a little younger.”

AUBREY
“I’m sorry, I- That’s terrible.”

ANTONIO
“yeah, and It got really bad for a
while, with my family and especially
my mental health, and I had gotten to
a point where I didn’t even recognize
myself. (Pause) but I never want to
feel that way again.”

AUBREY
“yeah. sometimes I feel like that.
Like I don’t recognize myself.”

ANTONIO
“well aubrey, I can tell that you’re a
good person, and that You have a good
heart.”

AUBREY
“Yeah?…what makes you say that?”

ANTONIO
“Because I hear it when you talk, and
I can see it in the things that you
do.“

AUBREY
“Yeah? I don’t know…Sometimes it’ll
feel like, like I want something, like
it’s all I ever wanted…but after a
while i’ll realize that it’s not what
I wanted, at all. It’s what they
wanted.”(pause)

ANTONIO
“They?”

AUBREY
“Everyone else, The world.”

(The couple stays silent for a

moment, then Antonio looks at
Aubrey and smiles.)

AUBREY
“What?” (She giggles)

ANTONIO
“Come on!”
(He grabs her hand and they run
back to the car, they both laugh
and Antonio starts driving.)

FADE FROM PARKING GARAGE SCENE TO THE TWO DRIVING .

INT. NIGHT, MOVING CAR,

(They drive in silence for a

little bit, just listening to a
song on the radio.)

ANTONIO
“Aubrey…”

AUBREY
“Yes?”

ANTONIO
“do you think, you’re happy?”

(Aubrey appears to be thinking for

a second, then She smiles.)

AUBREY
“Yeah. I think so.“

ANTONIO
“You’re happy?”

AUBREY
“Right now, with you. Yes I am happy.”

(They both smile at eachother.

Antonio turns the music up on the
radio as he drives through a
tunnel with circular neon lights
on the walls. We see the car
driving through the tunnel from
an angle behind them, moving At
their speed.)

FADE TO BLACK, SONG FADES OUT.
