UNIT 2: The mailing: A complaint for the mayor of your city.

LANGUAGE ABILITY TO EVALUATE: Speaking 

TASK: Students write a letter and present it orally for the mayor of their city complaining about the
poor public services for the citizens.

EXPECTED LEARNING: Students learn to type and speak in public about a formal letter of
complaint to his or her mayor of their city expressing unhappiness for the public services, using
appropriate vocabulary and expressions.

DESCRIPTION OF THE TASK: Students are able to type a complaining letter, as well as they have
to make complaints orally about public services, such as water supply, electricity, public lighting,
trash collection, security, etc. Using expressions, the correct punctuation and formal language.
Students have to make a rehearsal in pairs to practice the complaints. They can speak to the
teacher thinking he or she is the mayor.

MATERIAL: Students can use internet images or photos of the public services mentioned.
