    1.0 TOPIC

    Understanding the Structural Design Concept

    2.0 TASK

    Answer all the following questions.

    01. Explain the difference between conceptual design and detailed design.
    02. What are the fundamental objectives of design?
    03. Explain how a structure can become not serviceable?
    04. Critically analyze the differences among design philosophies such as load factor method
    permissible stress method and limit state method.
    05. List the principa1 source · of uncertainty in structural design and discuss how these
    uncertainties are rationally allowed for in design.
    06. A higher partial factor of safety is being used for dead loads or live loads. What could be the
    reason?
