1. Citizenship education is education that aims to prepare citizens to think
critically and act democratically. Citizenship education has meaning and
importance in the development of a democratic society, namely:
a. Building democratic character: Citizenship education aims to build the
democratic character of the Indonesian nation and shape the
participatory skills of citizens. Thus, civics education can help build a
democratic society.
b. Increasing democratic awareness: Citizenship education can increase
people's democratic awareness which is implemented in everyday life
to become a democratic society. This can help increase people's
political participation.
c. Realizing human rights: Citizenship education can help realize human
rights by preparing citizens who are aware of their rights and
obligations as citizens.
Citizenship education can affect political participation and the quality of
citizenship by:
a. Increase political participation: Citizenship education can increase
people's political participation by providing an understanding of the
rights and obligations as citizens, as well as providing skills to
participate in political life.
b. Improving the quality of citizenship: Citizenship education can
improve the quality of citizenship by building the democratic
character and participatory skills of citizens. This can help build a
society that is democratic and respects human rights.
Citizenship education has meaning and importance in the development of a
