Pre-Symposium Details
On June 1st, Thursday, Ma'am Faith Lynn D. Depeña discussed the project for the
upcoming weeks. The project involved conducting a creative and interactive symposium that
would cover four crucial topics.
The symposium aimed to tackle issues such as the responsible use of media and
information, computer addiction, cyberbullying, and the impact of media and information on
individuals and society. Ma'am Depeña suggested that we could choose participants from
either elementary or secondary students.
The location of the symposium was also discussed during the meeting. We had to
select the school and section where the seminar would take place. Ma'am Depeña also
emphasized the importance of creating a waiver and a letter addressed to the principal and
class advisers of the school we chose.
Furthermore, we were instructed to make a certificate of participation and certificate of
recognition for the speakers and advisers to show our appreciation for their support. Ma'am
Depeña also urged us to prepare a narrative report of the pre-symposium, during-
symposium, and post-symposium details along with pictures for documentation.
Moreover the class was filled with excitement as they were appointed with different
roles and responsibilities for the upcoming symposium that they will organize. The class
unanimously appointed Sean Mark W. Sosa as their leader who will oversee and ensure that
everything will go smoothly during the event.
As part of the preparation, the class delegated specific tasks to each member to
ensure that everything is well-organized. Three speakers were assigned - Jhon Ernest Bituin,
Prince Iann L. Legaspi and Sean Mark W. Sosa - who will serve as the voice of the class and
convey their message to the audience effectively.
Andrea M. Trijo and Therise Allyson T. Ramos were tasked to organize the activities
and icebreakers that will keep the audience engaged. Meanwhile, Janica R. Rentillo will
oversee the technical aspects of the symposium, particularly the preparation of the television
and speaker. Nina Joy V. Dalisay, Ansherina Zchendredge A. Zuasola and Kisses Claire

Ruiz were assigned to create an impressive PowerPoint presentation that will accompany the
speakers.
Food preparation was also crucial for the event, so Cherry Ann C. Villaveza was
appointed as the head of the food committee. On the other hand, Rachelle Lyn B. Cudiamat,
Juliana Louis P. Delfin, and Kharylle B. Causapin will be responsible for making certificates
for the participants.
Capturing the moments and memories of the event was also important, so Caliah
Raine S. Salanguit and Irish Rio L. Inumerable were tasked to take photographs throughout
the day.
Edcel T. Paculan was tasked to ensure cleanliness and waste management to keep
the area clean throughout the event. Last but not least, Little Jed M. Sanchez, Arabella Grace
A. De Leon, and Cristine Jazhiel B. La Torre were tasked with writing the narrative report of
the whole symposium.
The rest of the class did not leave their peers with the responsibility alone. They all
contributed their time and effort to help in the preparation of the symposium and also in the
distribution of food and prices.
Before the day end , we plan for an upcoming symposium. We wanted to make sure
we were prepared ahead of time, so we could deliver the best possible presentation. We
started by discussing who our target audience should be - primary or secondary students.
Everyone was given a chance to express their opinions, and we had a discussion
about which grade level would be the better fit. After weighing the pros and cons, we decided
to focus on Grade 10 students at Dr. Crisogono B. Ermita Sr Memorial National High School.
We set a date for the symposium - Friday, June 16th - and got to work planning the
content and logistics. We wanted to make sure we had ample time to prepare and rehearse
our presentation, so we write the list of tasks and set deadlines.
On June 2, our team gathered to work on the letter of approval for the upcoming
symposium. We carefully crafted the letter to ensure that it reflected our intentions,
objectives, and the overall purpose of the symposium. Our leader, who had been taking

charge of coordinating with the venue and other necessary arrangements for the event, also
announced that we needed to have a contribution for the potential expenses.
After some discussion, we all agreed to contribute 50 pesos each towards the event's
costs. We were all eager and excited about the upcoming symposium and wanted to ensure
that it was a success.
The next day, on June 3, we worked on the event's flow, brainstorming session by
session how the symposium should take place. We agreed that the opening remarks and
prayer were crucial to set the right tone and convey the purpose of the symposium. We
decided to discuss the first two topics, followed by an icebreaker activity to lighten up the
atmosphere.
After the break, we would discuss the third and fourth topics, followed by another
activity that would engage participants further. Finally, we decided to end the symposium with
an awarding ceremony and group picture-taking.
Last week, we had a productive and busy time working on the upcoming class event.
Rachelle Lyn Cudiamat, Juliana Louis Delfin, and Kharylle Causapin started the week by
creating a template of certificate on June 5, Monday. As the week progressed, we
accomplished more tasks until we successfully obtained the required signatures for our
event.
On June 6, Tuesday, we finalized the letter and waiver that we needed to submit to
our teacher, Ma'am Faith. We also collected funds, reaching a total of 1060 pesos. We also
change our schedule since we will have research defense on June 16. Later that day, our
class requested a copy of the PowerPoint presentation for our upcoming module. However,
instead of providing us with a copy of the PowerPoint, our teacher, Ma'am, decided to send
us a copy of the module.
On the 7th day of June, Sean reminded Ma'am about the copy of the module we
requested. She obliged and immediately sent us the copy we needed. We were grateful for
Ma'am's help and timely response.

While checking our certificates, Ma'am noticed a minor revision that needed to be
made. She called our attention to it and asked us to make the necessary changes. We were
impressed by her attention to detail, and we appreciated the effort she put into ensuring that
our certificates were accurate.
On June 7, Wednesday, was an eventful day. We discussed together with the leader
and the visual-aid team to decide on what information we should indicate on the powerpoint
presentation. Additionally, we brainstormed the possible expenses that would incur for food
as we planned on what food to share with our class during the event. On the same day, we
went to Ma'am Depeña to check the letter of approval that we had prepared, and although
there were little revisions needed, we took note of it and resolved it as soon as possible.
After revising the letter of approval, we started pursuing the necessary signatures. On
June 8, Thursday, we successfully obtained the signature of our leader, president, and
subject teacher Ma'am Faith after presenting the revised letter of approval. We were also
able to collect an additional 665 pesos for our funds. Moreover, on June 9 there is additional
100 pesos for our fund.
On June 15, Thursday, we encountered a minor setback in our plans when we failed
to obtain approval from our school principal to conduct our symposium outside of school
premises . However, we did not let this discourage us, and we regrouped to come up with an
alternative plan.
After brainstorming, we decided to conduct our symposium for STEM Buenas. The
head of the event spoke with Sir Arbie Buenas, the advisor of STEM Buenas, to discuss the
logistics of the event. However, upon checking the schedule of their class, it turned out to be
quite complex and challenging to schedule the symposium on that day.
Then on June 16, Friday, we decided to approach the adviser of HUMSS-11
Cabingan, Sir Kim Cabingan, to discuss our symposium project. The head of the symposium,
Sean Mark W. Sosa, and the president, Arabella Grace A. De Leon, met with the adviser and
talked about scheduling the event. During their conversation, they also reached out to the
president of HUMSS-11 Cabingan to discuss their schedules.

To our delight, we found out that they had a vacant time slot. We, therefore, took this
as an opportunity to conduct our symposium. With this development, we quickly updated our
teacher, Ma'am Faith, about the new section and schedule we selected for the symposium.
Although we encountered a minor problem during the planning stages of our
symposium, we were able to successfully overcome it. We are grateful to have found a new
section and schedule that could accommodate our event, and we're looking forward to the
success of our upcoming activity.
Our group's preparations for the symposium continued to progress, as we wrapped up
some key tasks over the weekend.
On June 17, Saturday, Cherry Ann Villaveza took the responsibility of purchasing food
for HUMSS Cabingan, which was a crucial part of our planning process. After discussing the
options, we decided that biscuits and water would be the best food and drink choices for the
event. Cherry Ann spent almost 971 pesos for both the food and transportation costs,
ensuring that we could provide enough for everyone attending.
On June 18, the day before the symposium, Ansherina Zuasola, Kisses Claire Ruiz,
and Nina Joy Dalisay worked on finalizing the powerpoint presentation. While Rachelle Lyn
Cudiamat started to print certificates for our participants. With the event swiftly approaching,
these students poured all their effort into making sure that the presentation was excellent,
ensuring that we could deliver clear and concise information to our audience.
Overall, these days' accomplishments demonstrated our team's ability to work
effectively under time pressure towards our goals. We were fortunate to have dedicated
members who were willing to take on various tasks and responsibilities to ensure the success
of the upcoming symposium.

During Symposium Details

On June 19, 2023, the d-day of the symposium, the ABM-12 Coz class is hosting a
symposium. Before the event, we are heading to school to prepare everything we need. Each
student in the class has specific tasks to fulfill such as buying prizes, taking the certificates to
Sir Arbie Buenas, bringing food and drinks, and ensuring that all participants are taken care
of. We need to make sure that everything is in order, so everyone has a great time at the
event. In order to host this symposium, we needed approval from our teachers. We
approached several teachers, including our M.I.L teacher, Ma'am Faith Lynn Depeña; our
adviser, Sir Ryan Coz; the HUMSS-11 Cabingan adviser, Sir Kim Cabingan, and our
principal; Janet G. Apolinar, PhD. We found them in different rooms throughout the school to
sign the approval sheet required for us to host the symposium.

As the preparations for the symposium, Sean Mark, Jhon Ernest , and Prince Iann
are practicing their speeches to deliver to the HUMSS-11 Cabingan students. They are
feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, unsure of how the symposium will unfold once
they take the stage. The speakers want to make an impact, to impart important knowledge
and insights about their respective fields to their audience. Their enthusiasm is palpable, as
they believe that their message will help students to gain a deeper understanding of different
subjects, and inspire them to pursue their interests. However, this is also coupled with
nervousness - the fear of forgetting lines, missing important points, or stumbling through their
speeches. As they prepare, they ensure that their speeches are polished and articulate,
practicing repeatedly to perfect their delivery. Despite their nervousness, the speakers are
confident in their ability to present their material to the best of their ability. They believe that
their passion and enthusiasm will shine through, helping to make the symposium a success.
With their hard work and dedication, they are ready and eager to share their ideas and
knowledge with their audience, hoping to leave a lasting impression.

The time is 10:40 a.m, we headed to the HUMSS-11 Cabingan classroom to organize
and prepare everything for the upcoming symposium. Arabella and Andrea picked up the TV

from Sir Nixon and carried it up to the fourth floor of the building. They placed the TV on a
table and hooked it up to the PowerPoint presentation, which would be used to share
important information with the students of HUMSS-11 Cabingan. Our goal was to ensure that
everyone in the classroom could see and hear the speakers.

As we were all preparing, our teacher in M.I.L, Ma'am Faith , came in to observe the
proceedings and support us. Everyone had specific tasks assigned to them to ensure that the
symposium ran smoothly. We were all busy checking the audio and the presentation, setting
up the Tv, and organizing the chairs of the classroom to give it a professional look. The
symposium had been long-awaited by both the students of HUMSS- 11 Cabingan and the
students of ABM-12 Coz, and they were all gearing up for the event. As the speakers made
their final preparations, Arabella A. De Leon, the student tasked with delivering the opening
remarks, was going over her speech one last time. Meanwhile, students like Andrea Trijo,
Irish and Caliah were tasked with taking photographs for documentation, Janica Rentillo was
responsible for the technical aspects of the presentation, and other members of ABM-12 Coz
were stationed towards the back of the room to watch. Finally, the time for the symposium
arrived, and it kicked off at precisely 11:10 a.m. The students began with a prayer offered by
a member of the HUMSS-11 Cabingan class, and then it was time for Arabella to deliver her
opening remarks. Arabella spoke passionately and eloquently, outlining the objectives of the
symposium and providing an overview of what was to come. The first speaker was Prine Iann
, who took on the daunting task of discussing the types of media that exist in today's world.
Legaspi began by explaining what print, broadcast, and media were, and then elaborated on
their respective merits and drawbacks. She also emphasized the importance of reliability and
accuracy when it comes to consuming information, and urged everyone to carefully consider
the value of any information that they come across. To make her point clearer, she provided
concrete examples and suggested ways by which we can evaluate the reliability of any
information. As Legaspi concluded, the microphone passed on to the next speaker, Jhon
Ernest.

During Jhon Ernest’s speech, he delved into two important topics: computer addiction
and cyberbullying. Firstly, he explained what computer addiction is and what causes it. He
asked the students of HUMSS-11 Cabingan how many hours they spent playing online
games and what they felt when they played. The students responded, indicating that they
spent roughly 3 hours playing and enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment when they won.
Ernest explained the effects of computer addiction and how it can negatively impact
academic performance. He explained that it is important to regulate time spent on computers
and prioritize other activities, such as studying and physical exercise. The second part of his
speech focused on cyberbullying. Moreover, Ernest initiated a game called "Bring me, What's
up".

"Bring Me, What's Up" is a fun game, the host of the game is the enthusiastic and
knowledgeable Therise , who provides clear and concise instructions on how to play the
game. The aim of "Bring Me, What's Up" is to test the student’s knowledge and familiarity
with popular media apps such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and
Telegram. In this game, the host will call out the name of a popular media app, and the
students will need to show their cellphones to demonstrate that they have the app installed.
The game then progresses to the second part, where the students are required to explain the
importance of that particular app for them. This can range from keeping in touch with friends
and family who live far away, to documenting important milestones through photos and
stories. Ultimately, the game ends with a sense of satisfaction and achievement for the
students who were able to demonstrate their knowledge and appreciation of the media apps
that they use on a daily basis. This game served as an introduction to the topic of
cyberbullying, which Ernest defined and explained. He emphasized the importance of
preventing cyberbullying and how its implications can have long-lasting effects on individuals.
Ernest discussed the role of media and information in perpetuating cyberbullying and how
individuals can help stop it.

In summary he discussed, Jhon Ernest’s speech on computer addiction and

cyberbullying were informative and engaging. The use of a game to introduce the topic of
cyberbullying was a creative and effective way to capture the student’s attention and provide
a fun learning experience. Bituin's emphasis on the importance of regulating computer use
and preventing cyberbullying is a message that all students can benefit from. By raising
awareness and promoting responsible technology use, we can create a safer and more
positive online environment for everyone.

The third speaker, Sean Mark, opened his discussion by asking the students for their
understanding of the term "visual." He then proceeded to introduce his topic, which was the
"Principles and Elements of Visual design". Sean emphasized the importance of following the
principles of design to create appealing artwork. He explained the six principles of design,
which were Consistency, Center of interest, Balance, Harmony, Contrast, and Rhythm, in
detail. To make his presentation engaging, Sean used a list of the students' names, called
their names ( the names of HUMSS- 11 Cabingan), and had them read from the TV the
information about the "Principles And Elements of Visual Design, and he then expounded on
each principle, giving examples and highlighting their significance.

After discussing the principles of design, Sean proceeded to the seven basic types of
photographic shots. He discussed the difference between each type, emphasizing how they
could impact the overall outcome of a picture. To help the students understand the concepts
better, Sean gave them an activity called "TAKE A SHOT." The class was divided into three
groups, and each group had to take a photo within five minutes, utilizing one of the seven
different shots presented. After the allotted time, one representative from each group
presented their shot and explained their choice to the class. The group with the most unique
and visually striking shot was declared the winner.

Sean's presentation was enlightening and interactive, leaving the students with a
deeper understanding of the principles and elements of visual design and their applications to

photography. His presentation provided the students with practical knowledge that they could
utilize in their future art projects. The "TAKE A SHOT" activity was engaging and allowed the
students to experience hands-on learning, making the class more exciting and fun. In
summary, Sean's discussion and presentation were a great demonstration of a thoroughly
planned and effectively delivered talk, imparting valuable knowledge on the field of art and
visual design to the students.

At 12:20 pm, the speakers completed their task of addressing the topic assigned to
them. It was time for the awarding ceremony. At the symposium, the speakers were assigned
certain topics to tackle and they did an excellent job of providing insight and information to
everyone in attendance. The HUMSS-11 Cabingan students received certificates for their
participation in the symposium. It was a proud moment for everyone involved as it showed
the dedication and hard work put into making the event a success.

After the awarding ceremony, food and drinks were distributed to everyone in the
class, including the ABM-12 Coz students who were also responsible for helping with the
distribution. There were some leftovers, and in an effort to avoid waste, the ABM-12 Coz
students were able to make use of the remaining food and water. It was at this point that
Ma'am Faith came forward to give the closing remarks. She spoke proudly of the success of
the symposium and how everyone had come together to make it happen. Ma'am Faith
expressed her gratitude towards everyone who had put in hard work towards making the
event a success, and how proud she was of everyone involved.

Furthermore, the symposium is important by cause of it allows us to showcase our

skills and talents, while also educating others. We want to make sure that everyone who
attends has a good time and learns something new. We've put in a lot of effort and hard work
to make this event successful, and we hope that it is enjoyable for everyone who attends.

Overall, the symposium was a resounding success, and students of ABM-12 Coz
came away from the event with a deeper understanding of the significance of media in our

lives and how to consume media in an informed and responsible manner. The speakers'
presentations were informative, engaging, and well-delivered, and the interactive activities
kept the students engaged throughout the symposium. ABM -12 Coz hard work paid off with
a well-organized and smooth flow, and the generous distribution of food and drinks added to
the positive atmosphere. The symposium demonstrated the power of a students coming
together to achieve a common goal, and it was truly a proud moment for everyone involved.
Furthermore, this symposium had been an excellent opportunity to bring people together and
share knowledge, and it showed the power in making things happen.

As the narrator of this narrative report, I am extremely delighted to say that my

classmates demonstrated excellent attentiveness and dedication throughout the entire
symposium, which indeed made it a huge success. I could see and feel the passion and
commitment in each and every one of them, which inspired and motivated me and the rest of
the team to perform our best. Moreover, I would like to express my deepest admiration for
everyone who participated in this symposium. It's no easy feat to present in front of an
audience. However, my classmates stepped up and delivered their presentations with
excellence and professionalism. I believe that this symposium would not have been possible
without the collective effort and contribution of everyone involved, including the attendees,
organizers, and speakers. I am proud and grateful to have been part of this fantastic
symposium, and I look forward to more exciting and productive symposiums like this in the
future.

Post -Symposium Details

At the end of our symposium we proceed to the culminating in the awarding of
certificates to the students. The event was a momentous occasion, and the student's joy was
noticable. The air was filled with the sounds of laughter and the occasional playful joke, such
as "Finally, we are honors," which only added to the festive atmosphere of the event. We
took pictures of the students first, then we joined the students, we ask someone to take a
photo of us, capturing the moment of pride and accomplishment forever. The students' sense
of achievement was tangible, and the awarding served as a great morale booster. Before we
proceed on cleaning, our teacher Ma'am Faith congratulated us on successfully conducting
the symposium and gave us a little speech on how great the speakers which are Sean,
Ernest, and Aiann, she also mentioned how they did a very good job and she ask for a round
of applause for ABM-12 Coz.
As the awarding ceremony drew to a close, some of us reporters extended our
assistance to the students in cleaning up the classroom. Arabella, Bianca, Cristine,Ernest,
Sean, Jed, Kharylle, Andrea, Edcel, and others lent a hand in arranging the chairs, sweeping
the floor, and taking out the trash. We worked alongside the students in a lively and cheerful
environment. The students appreciated the reporters' help, and it was a great way to end the
symposium on a positive note.
The final task was the return of the TV borrowed from Sir Nixon. Jed and Ernest were
tasked with the responsibility of carrying the huge and heavy TV back to the comlab. Before
returning the TV, we greeted our former teacher at Practical Research, Sir Noveno, and had
a brief chat with him. Despite the burden of the heavy TV, the students managed it with care,
taking every step with caution. Upon arriving at the destination, Jed and Ernest expressed
their gratitude to Ma'am David and Sir Nixon before bidding farewell to everyone.
Following the symposium on HUMSS-11 Cabingan, Arabella, Jazhiel, and Jed
collaborated to produce a narrative report that detailed the proceedings of the event.
Arabella's role was to document the preparations leading up to the symposium, which
included selecting speakers and creating the program. Jazhiel was responsible for

documenting the events that took place during the symposium, such as the speeches,
presentations, and discussions. Finally, Jed was in charge of documenting the aftermath of
the symposium, which included the cleaning, awarding, picture taking, and returning the TV.
We used pictures taken during the symposium to support our narrative report and
submitted it to their group chat for review and feedback. After making necessary revisions,
We posted our work on Facebook to share it with a wider audience. The report was well-
received, and it provided an accurate representation of the symposium's purpose and
outcomes. The report also helped to promote the event and raise awareness of the issues
discussed during the symposium.
The symposium was a great learning experience for all involved, with the students
gaining new insights into media literacy. Meanwhile, the class learned the intricacies of
organizing and executing a successful event. The symposium was a great bonding
experience that brought the community together, promoting camaraderie and fostering the
spirit of collaboration.
On the evening of June 20, 2023, Ma'am Faith announced to the group chat that at
least three to five representatives of the class would evaluate their classmates based on their
participation and help before, during, and after the symposium. The three representatives
selected were Sean, Ara, and Ernest, who then graded each student individually and took the
average score for their final grade. Unfortunately, many students received a grade of 80.
To address this issue, the three representatives brainstormed and came up with an
idea to improve their classmates' grades. They decided that each student would make a
short video discussing at least one topic from the symposium. The topics could be
Responsible Use of Media and Information, Computer Addiction and Cyberbullying,
Implication of Media and Information to an Individual and the Society, or Design Principles
and Elements. The video had to be at least one minute long and submitted by June 21, 2023,
at 8:00 A.M. However, the submission of a video did not guarantee a score increase. The
video still had to be presentable, proper, and well-made.

Before announcing their idea to the group chat, the three representatives informed
Ma'am Faith, who approved of the plan. The submitted videos would be shared in the group
chat, but the scores would not be revealed. The three representatives urged their classmates
to participate in the activity to improve their grades if they felt like they had received a low
score.
After a while one of our classmates Claire, said in our group chat that "is there an
easier activity? That's hard for some of our classmates, can you guys show them some
mercy?" Then Arabella responded that "about the difficulty of the activity, our first option was
to have a reflection paper, but we already did that in or subject applied economics and
Business Ethics. So we decided that the activity was to create a short minute video about you
guys discussing a topic from the symposium. The reason for this is because the speakers
already experienced this, but in front of a different section. It takes a lot of courage to perform
specially in front of a lot of students . The purpose of this activity is not only to share your
knowledge but to make you experience to speak and be the voice of youth. Before
graduating on Senior High School we want you to have courage and perseverance to speak
and be heard.
On the scheduled day for the submission of videos, only Leonard had complied with
the requirement by 8:00 A.M. In response, the three representatives, Ara, Sean, and Ernest,
decided to extend the deadline for submission to 10:00 A.M to give their classmates more
time to comply. However, despite the extension, only Encinarez, Rentillo, and Tayas were
able to submit their videos and earn an additional five points for their evaluation.
It was noted that the leader of the symposium had set a minimum grade of 85 for the
activity, but unfortunately, some students still received a grade of 75 due to their inability to
submit the video. The three representatives had given their classmates enough time to
comply with the requirement, but only a few students were able to submit their videos within
the extended deadline. As a result, the printed copy of the evaluation sheet of the symposium
was given to Ma'am Faith.

In conclusion, the symposium on media and information literacy was a resounding

success. It was a truly enlightening experience for all of us, as we explored the many facets
of this critical topic. We were impressed by the passion and expertise of our speakers, who
brought a wealth of knowledge to the table. The engaging discussions and thought-provoking
insights shared by participants made this event a truly collaborative effort.
As we bring this narrative report to a close, it is important to remember that media and
information literacy is not just a theoretical concept, but an essential life skill that impacts our
daily lives. It enables us to navigate the complex media landscape of today with confidence
and discernment, and to make informed decisions that shape our world.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this symposium
a success, including our esteemed speakers, our dedicated organizers, and all of the
enthusiastic participants who contributed to the lively discussions. Let us continue to build on
the momentum of this event, and work towards creating a society that is informed, critical,
and empowered.
