This lesson plan outlines the topics and experiments to be covered in an 8-week Basic Mechanical Testing (BMT) lab course for third semester civil engineering students. Over the course of 11 sessions, students will conduct experiments to test the shear strength, torsion, impact resistance, hardness, and flexural strength of mild steel and wood samples. Tests will include single and double shear, Charpy and Izod impact, Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers hardness, and two-point bending tests. The final two weeks are reserved for revision and the lab internal assessment.
