ƒ Activity type: opposites, listening for specific words.

ƒ Time: 20 mins.

1) Write the following words on the board:

the dead – Satan – hate – live (verb) – go – stand – empty (verb) – after – small –
not enough – death – left (Past Simple of verb) - dying

2) Students write the opposites alone or in pairs. They may need to be helped, but it is not important
for them to get the exact opposites at this stage.

Key: (but, at this stage, any correct opposite is acceptable)

the living – God – love – die – come – sit – fill – before – big – too much – life – arrived -
living

3) Play the song. Students listen for the opposites, numbering them in the order they appear.

Key: 1. come - 2. the living - 3. sit - 4. God - 5. love - 6. fill - 7. too much - 8. life -
9. die - 10. living - 11. before - 12. arrived - 13. big

4) Feedback and give out copies of the lyrics. Alternatively students correct themselves with the lyric
sheet.

5) Correct, and sing together.

Follow up: What do you most want from life? What obstacles do you think you will have to
overcome to achieve this?
