On Wednesday 5/9/2023, we visited the rehabilitation center of Rumah Pengasih Aman Jaya in
Perak, Gopeng. There are many new things we have learned while being there. For example, we
have met the residents who live there and from our point of view they are people who want to get
out of their addictions such as excessive drug consumption, alcohol, and addiction to video
games. From what we can see, they need help to recover from their addiction. Not only that, the
staff who work and operate the facility are former patients of the rehabilitation center. From
there, we can see that there are people who can recover from addiction, as well as former
members of the center who return to the place because they found their way back to their former
selves.
Also, when we do a sharing session with them, we get some benefits such as empathy and
understanding. As we interact with individuals in the rehabilitation center, we are able to develop
empathy and understanding for the individuals who are there and their health conditions. These
hands-on experiences help break down stereotypes and promote inclusion. While doing activities
with them, we became aware of the challenges faced by individuals in the recovery process. In
addition, we can improve teamwork and cooperation. Participating in activities with individuals
at the rehabilitation center encourages teamwork and cooperation. We as students can work
together to help individuals, adapt activities for different abilities, or create an inclusive
environment. From that experience, we were able to cultivate cooperative skills and promote
community spirit.
Overall, visiting a rehab center and engaging in activities with individuals there offers a unique
and meaningful experience to all of us. It promotes empathy, awareness, personal growth, and
the development of valuable skills, while fostering inclusion and breaking down societal barriers.
