Part 1:
Understanding
Facebook Ads
The uses for FB Ads:

• Getting registrations
• Acquiring leads
• Direct sales

Ad types:

• Page post engagement (PPE)


purpose: get someone to engage with your
post (social proof)
• Click to website (CTW)
purpose: to get as much traffic as posible to
your website
• Conversion
purpose: get someone to take a specific action
such as view content, ad to cart, initiate check-out,
and of course PURCHASE

Ad placements (News feed only):

• Mobile - 1200 x 1650 px resolution


• Desktop - 1200 x 1200 px resolution
• Split test mobile vs desktop ads
Part 2:
The Facebook
Pixel

Q: What is the pixel?


A: An analytics tool embedded on each and every page of your Shopify store.

Types of Pixels:

• View content (VC):


this pixel is fired when someone views a product on your
store • Add to cart (ATC):
this pixel is fired when someone adds a product to their cart
• Initiate Checkout (ITC):
this pixel is fired when someone begins the checkout
process • Purchase (PUR):
this pixel is fired when someone purchases a product
How It Works:
Facebook collects data on your visitor…
e.g. Todd fired a VC pixel

Facebook collects Todd’s data and


finds people very similar to Todd to serve them ads

Q: What do you mean by “data”?


A: Interests, profiles, age, sex etc.

! The more data you can collect, the more Facebook will
learn who your target audience is!
• The facebook pixel is constantly tracking every single thing that
every that every visitor does when they visit your website.

• We obviously want our visitors to purchase so will focus on the PUR pixel.

• If you don’t have enough data FB will follow this pixel path:

Seting up the pixel:

Ads Manager All tools Assets Pixels

• This is your pixel dashboard

• Copy your pixel ID in the top right of the dashboard

• Go to your Shopify dashboard and click:

online store preferences Facebook pixel ID

And paste your ID

• Install the Chrome extension “Facebook pixel helper” to check if your


pixel was installed correctly.
Part 3:
Optimizing
Your Ads
• 99% of the time you will be running a conversion ad
• Understand this, when you first open your store your pixel has
zero data
• Start with a PUR ad (Purchase)
- based off the audiences you choose
- this will get you the most purchases possible
• From there we will move on to the ATC (Add To Cart) objective
- this is after you have had at least 100 ATC Pixel Fires on your store
- the goal here is to get 100+ ATC’s weekly.
- from here FB will only serve your ads to people who are most likely
to add to cart
• Now that we have been getting a lot ATC’s we will focus on
purchase (PUR)
- once we get 100+ purchases a month we can run Facebook
conversion ad with Purchase objective
- with those conversion ads we will get more purchases

! What we’ve learned: the more data the better. Get


purchases first, before all else.
The simple targeting checklist

• Any audience (niche) with a strong presence on


face book can be profitable

• THE KEY is finding them on facebook with just a bit of research

• If you can find an audience (niche) with a presence, that means there
has been a social engagement within that niche
this pixel is fired when someone purchases a product

How do we find them?

1. Enter in the broadest term for your audience (niche) in Audience Insights

2. Narrow the audience dawn to the core followers

3. Check the audience size of monthly active people


- If niche is present then move to the #4
- If not, pick a new niche

4. Search facebook graph for fan pages

5. Search google for magazines, forums, businesses

6. Write down all the top 5 to save for targeting

7. Search for those top selections when building your ad within the
ad manager

The Anatomy
of a Facebook Ad
PT1: Question

• Start out with a budget of $5 a day and test it


for three days

• Set automatic bids and conversions for 7


days window

Design:

• 1200 x 1200 px (desktop ads)


• 1200 x 1650 px (mobile ads)
• Have at least one link above the fold
• You want to take up as much space
as possible in the News feed

Part 5:
Tracking
your Ad

• Change your view mode in the Ads Manager to Ad Sets

• Customize columns to: (Save New Report)


- Budget
- CPC (All)
- CTR (All)
- CPM (cost per 1,000 Impressions)
- Purchase (Facebook pixel)
- Cost per purchase (Facebook pixel)
- Purchase Conversion Valve (Facebook pixel)

• What to look for:


- CPM should be less than $15 in the first 24 hours
- CTR sould be above 2%
- CPC doesn’t matter as long as you’re profitable
- Increase your budget by only $5 a day to seale
- You can also just duplicate the adset with the new budget
